Sport: City declares 2023 “Year of the bicycle”
In order to promote cycling and contribute to a sustainable city, Estepona has declared 2023 as the “Year of the bicycle”. The city council is currently working on a programme to achieve this. With the expansion of the cycle path network and the coastal corridor, the city wants to encourage locals as well as tourists to take part in sports on the one hand. On the other hand, they should be encouraged to switch from car to bike and thus contribute to reducing air pollution and noise emissions.
In addition, cycling has always had a special significance for the city. Stages in races such as the Vuelta Ciclista a España, the Gran Fondo Costa Sol and the Vuelta Cilcista a Andalucía pass through Estepona.
