The artists José Marchá and Pepe Chica exhibit their works at Casa de Las Tejerinas

The inauguration of the painting and sculpture exhibition will take place on Friday, March 1, at 6:00 p.m., and will be open until March 20.

The Estepona Town Hall informs that next Friday, March 1, at 6:00 pm, the exhibition of paintings and sculptures by artists José Marchá and Pepe Chica will be inaugurated in Room 1 of the Casa de Las Tejerinas, located in the Plaza de las Flores.

The exhibition, entitled ‘Art & Sculpture’, consists of a total of 34 works, 13 oil paintings and 21 sculptures, and can be visited until March 20, Tuesday to Friday, from 10:00 to 20:00 hours, and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 20:00 hours, with free access.

José Rodríguez Carmona “Marchá”. Born in Andújar, Jaén, in October 1950, he moved for family reasons to Arjonilla when he was three years old and in that town he began his artistic apprenticeship, which included ceramics, very relevant at that time in the area. From this technical knowledge, which required a great speed of execution, derives the enormous ease achieved by the artist Marchá for the realization of his painting. An unexpected gift received on his twelfth birthday -materials, tools and equipment for oil painting- meant for the restless beginner the encounter with a world full of possibilities and suggestions, which determined his attachment, from that moment on, to oil painting.

At the age of eighteen he landed in Madrid, ready to find a niche in the national painting scene. Apart from imbibing the art of the greats in the Prado, he came into contact with the reputable art dealer Arnot, who opened the doors of America, to whose collectors, from then on, his canvases would arrive regularly, already surrounded by international prestige.

Based on the Costa del Sol, José Marchá has to his credit an endless number of exhibitions, and his works can be admired in several private collections, as well as in various museums and institutions.

Pepe Chica. A lifetime of restlessness for art. The sculptor Pepe Chica lives and has his workshop in Churriana (a suburb of Malaga). He was a student of the School of Arts and Crafts of Malaga, where he was formed, so we can say that he has been with his hands impregnated with clay since he was twenty years old.

In 1986 he exhibited for the first time in “Arte de aquí”. Since then he has not stopped participating in competitions, either individually or in collaboration with other artists. As he himself explains, the 2020 pandemic encouraged him a lot in what he likes so much: clay modeling.

He currently teaches clay modeling classes at the Casa de la Cultura in Churriana.

“I have noticed how the passing of the years makes me grow in all senses,” he says at the moment. She continues to find immense pleasure in the creation of each new sculpture, in which she expresses her ideas, feelings and concerns.
