The eighth Estepona World Ham Contest will bring together 200 cutters, more than 60 exhibitors and an extensive program of concerts.

It will be held from August 8 to 15 and will feature performances by Joana Jiménez and Nayeli, day 8; La Guardia, day 9; Compás Flamenco, day 10; Decai, day 11; Jesús de Manuel, day 12; José el Francés and Gloria Bendita, day 13; Son del Puerto, day 14; and el Maki and María Artés, day 15.

The Estepona Town Hall is organizing the eighth World Ham Contest ‘Popi’ City of Estepona, to be held between August 8 and 15, 2023 on the promenade of the town.

The event, organized together with the ham cutter José María Téllez ‘Popi’, has the institutional support of the Diputación de Málaga and the Junta de Andalucía. This year it will be declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia and will feature more than 200 cutters and more than 60 exhibitors. It can be visited from 19.00 to 02.00 hours, and will offer free concerts every night by different artists.

The councilor of the City Council of Estepona and Deputy Municipal Care and Recruitment, Salome Hidalgo, today presented this event with José María Téllez ‘Popi’, and stressed that Sabor a Málaga sponsors this event since the first edition. In addition, he added that, on this occasion, will give special relevance to Malaga wines, as well as artisan breads and sweets.

In this sense, in addition to the traditional stands of hams and sausages, will also be present Bodegas Carpe Diem, adhering to the brand Sabor a Málaga and whose vineyards are located in the municipality of Mollina, promoting its variety of wines with denomination of origin Malaga and Sierras de Málaga.

Also, traditional artisan breads and more innovative specialties made in wood-fired oven will be in charge of Pan Piña bakery, bakery of Algatocín known for its famous gold and silver breads.

Salome Hidalgo has stressed the support of the Diputación de Málaga, through Sabor a Málaga, to activities that help boost the food industry and gastronomy, such as this event, “which has become an unmissable gastronomic event that highlights products such as ham and pork products, but also serves to honor the figure of the ham cutter,” he said.

And he stressed that an event of this nature also serves as a showcase and tourist attraction for the city of Estepona.

This event has established itself as a meeting place for both ham companies from all over Spain and professional ham cutters. In this way, visitors will be able to appreciate the work of these experts, who will promote the qualities and properties of this food and its quality of origin.

This edition will be hosted by Canal Sur TV presenter Eva Ruiz, who will attend the inauguration on the 8th at 10 p.m., accompanied by several artists. In the entertainment part of the event, there will be concerts every day, starting at 23.30 hours, with performances by Joana Jiménez and Nayeli, day 8; La Guardia, day 9; Compás Flamenco, day 10; Decai, day 11; Jesús de Manuel, day 12; José el Francés and Gloria Bendita, day 13; Son del Puerto, day 14; and Maki and María Artés, day 15.
