The special lighting plan for the suburbs and the coastal corridor progresses with new works for 1.5 million euros

The City Council has put out to tender the installation of luminaires on 11 access roads to housing developments and at 15 points along the coastal corridor.

The Estepona City Council is moving forward with the special lighting plan for areas on the outskirts and the coastal corridor and has put out to tender two new actions in which a total of 1.5 million euros will be invested this year.

The municipal plan is an ambitious intervention program that aims to provide these spaces with lighting in a way that prioritizes energy efficiency, so it has opted for both solar streetlights and LED type luminaires. It will be developed over two years, and the three actions planned for 2024 are already underway.

On the one hand, the contract for the supply and installation of streetlights powered by a photovoltaic system to illuminate 11 access roads to housing developments in Estepona is out to tender. The project includes interventions in Isdabe, Cortes, Sun Beach, Avenida Flamenca, Boladilla, Nicola, Alberdina, La Cala, Monterroso, Guadalobón and Arroyo Vaquero.

In addition to providing lighting to the stretches creating adequate visibility and safety conditions for pedestrians, the technology chosen is intended to improve energy efficiency levels, energy savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. A total of 536 lighting points are planned to be installed, with a base budget of 761,363 euros (VAT included).

At the same time, the contract for the supply of street lights powered by photovoltaic systems to illuminate 15 areas of the coastal corridor has been put out to tender. Specifically, work will be carried out in El Saladillo, Villacana, Hotel Ikos, Guadalmansa, El Velerín, Dominion Beach, El Castor, El Cristo, Doncella Beach, Hotel H-10, Guadalobón, Elba, Arroyo Vaquero, Horizon Beach and Buenas Noches. Some 520 streetlights will be installed in these areas. The base bidding budget for this second action amounts to 738,636 euros (VAT included).

The execution period for the works foreseen in each of the intervention phases is three months from the award and signing of the contract.

On the other hand, the first of the actions planned for this year, which affects both Camino de Montesol (uphill Padrón) and Calle Ecuador (Valle Romano), is already in the awarding phase. The execution period, from the signing of the contract, has been set at two and a half months.

Public lighting represents an important fraction of the electricity consumption of public entities, hence the need to increase energy efficiency in this area in order to reduce the demand for electricity.

With this in mind, the City Council has proposed the implementation of autonomous solar streetlights as a solution to lighting access roads to housing developments and sections of the coastal path that currently do not have this service. With these luminaires, which incorporate photovoltaic technology, the energy demand will be considerably reduced and, therefore, the costs of electricity billing.

In parallel, the City Council is already working on the actions to be included in the lighting plan for next year 2025, which are currently in the study phase.
