Yohana Anaya Ruíz, a writer from Estepona, presents ‘Las mujeres del Istmo’, a work born from her experience as a volunteer in an NGO in Panama.
The event will feature the participation of poets Antonio Rios and Susana Teruel Benitez Teruel, and singer-songwriter Aida Bareh.
It will be next Thursday June 13, at 18.30 pm, at the Casa de Las Tejerinas, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
The City Council of Estepona informs that the young writer Yohana Anaya Ruiz will present next Thursday, June 13, at 18.30 hours, in the Alfonso Gil Hall of the Casa de las Tejerinas, the book ‘Women of the Isthmus’, the result of her experience as a volunteer in the NGO ‘La Escuelita de Chame’.
Published by the University of Malaga’s publishing house, ‘umaeditorial’, ‘Las mujeres del Istmo’ is a book made up of twelve biographies of Panamanian women.
Yohana Anaya Ruiz volunteered with the NGO ‘La Escuelita de Chame’ in October 2023 and, while there, in addition to working as a teacher, she also began to collect the testimonies of various women. Once in Spain, and with the interviews recorded on the phone, she began to write their biographies. The aim of this book is to give visibility to Panamanian women and to collaborate with the NGO ‘La Escuelita de Chame’.
The twelve stories are accompanied by an illustration made by non-profit artists from Málaga: Rocío Martín Gil, Julia Ortega Muñoz, Paula Osorio Siles, Pao Bc, María Fernández Escabias, María José Maldonado Ariza, Marta Contreras Martínez, Ana Ríos Zotano, Josefa María Rodríguez Moraza, Eduardo R., Sara Montes Santiago, Cristina Aletheia and Lucía Romero. Some of them are students of the IES Mar de Alborán in Estepona.
Together with Yohana Anaya Ruíz, poets Antonio Ríos and Susana Teruel Benítez, and singer-songwriter Aida Bareh will participate in the presentation ceremony.
Admission will be free until full capacity is reached.
Before the literary presentation, from 18.00 hours, you can visit a Solidarity Market where you can buy the book, as well as fans, bags and handmade bookmarks. Second-hand books and plant seeds will also be sold in exchange for the will. All proceeds will benefit the NGO ‘La Escuelita de Chame’.
