Estepona will have one of the largest crocheted Christmas trees in Andalusia

The tree, which will reach a height of 12 meters, is being installed in the José Vázquez square in Cancelada.
It is made entirely with more than a thousand crochet applications that have sewn the participants of the workshop, which is taught in the mayor’s office of Cancelada.
The City Council of Estepona reports that Cancelada will have this year one of the largest crochet Christmas trees in Andalusia. The deputy mayor of the Extraradio area, Begoña Ortíz, explained that this spectacular ornament, which is made with crochet applications, will reach 12 meters in height.
This initiative has been possible thanks to the constant work of the participants of the crochet workshop that is taught in the mayor’s office of Cancelada and the help of other residents of the neighborhood of Cancelada, as reported Ortiz. Since September, this group of women has devoted hundreds of hours to the manual making of more than a thousand crochet woven applications that will dress the structure of the tree, making it a unique and colorful collective work.
The municipal responsible has highlighted the enormous artistic and social value of the project. In this sense, he said that “this Christmas tree is an example of the talent, dedication and unity of the residents of Cancelada. They have created a piece that not only beautifies the neighborhood this Christmas, but shows what can be achieved when the community works together and with enthusiasm”.
The project stands out not only for its size and originality, but also for its community character. Each crochet appliqué has been handcrafted, combining traditional techniques with custom designs that reflect the creative spirit of the workshop and the women involved.
The Christmas tree is being installed in the José Vázquez square, in the heart of the neighborhood. It will be inaugurated on December 12, at 18.00 hours, just before the start of the Zambomba Flamenco organized by the City of Estepona in that space. The event will be enlivened by the group ‘With sugar and cinnamon’ and the dance academy ‘Solo Flamenco’. In addition, a tasting of Christmas sweets and chestnuts will be offered.
