Manuel Jabois, Violeta Gil, Alberto Sellés, Jacobo Bergareche, and Enrique Juncosa headline the fall program at the Library of Contemporary Cultures

The schedule for the last quarter also brings together other prominent figures from the worlds of literature, film, music, and the contemporary arts, with a carefully curated lineup of workshops, discussions, readings, concerts, and screenings

The Estepona City Council has presented the cultural program for the Library of Contemporary Cultures for the last quarter of 2026. The program once again emphasizes a diversity of disciplines and direct interaction between creators and the public.

Literature, film, poetry, music, visual arts, philosophy, and workshops once again make up a program that will bring together prominent cultural figures over the coming months, including writer and journalist Beatriz Moreno, journalist and writer Manuel Jabois, flamenco dancer Alberto Sellés, filmmaker and artist Martí Madula, philosopher Miguel Palma Molina, poet Violeta Gil, and writer Enrique Juncosa, among many others.

The program will kick off in September with two film screenings as part of the “Cine en la Octava” series. On the 15th, at 7:00 p.m., a film by Theo Angelopoulos will be screened, while on September 29, at 7:00 p.m., it will be Sofia Coppola’s turn.

On September 22, literature and poetry will take center stage with a book presentation and poetry reading of *La música sabía lo que yo siento. Ensayos sobre arte* by Enrique Juncosa at 8:00 p.m. On the 23rd, the library’s book club will discuss *Buddenbrooks* by Thomas Mann.

October will kick off with music. On the 1st, at 8:30 p.m., Beatriz Moreno will present *Versiones con mucho amor*, while on the 6th, there will be a presentation of *Rocío Jurado: la voz que nos hizo sentir libres* by Carlos Barea, at an event that will also feature journalist Juan Sanguino.

On October 10 at 11:00 a.m., artist Rubén Terriza will lead the painting workshop *Metamorphosis*. Later that same month, the film series will continue with a screening of Jaime Chávarri’s *50 Years of *El desencanto** on the 13th at 7:00 p.m.

Dance will also play a prominent role in the program. On October 14, at 8:00 p.m., renowned flamenco dancer Alberto Sellés returns to the library to lead the workshop “Movement Is Spirit: An Introduction to Flamenco Dance,” an event that will continue the following day with the presentation of the 6th City of Estepona International Poetry Prize at 8:00 p.m., followed by Alberto Sellés’s concert “Baile cantado.”

On October 20, filmmaker Todd Solondz will be the featured guest at a new “Cine en la Octava” screening. The following day, the book club will focus on *Los Kodokusha* by Milena Michiko.

The literary program will continue on October 27 with the workshop “Literature That Saves Us: Essential Readings on Loneliness, Grief, and Hope,” led by Casilda Sánchez Varela and Violeta Dávila. This will be followed by the literary presentation of *A veces nadie. A Journey to the Heart of Solitude,’ by Casilda Sánchez Varela.

The month will conclude on October 28 with the recital “I Don’t Want to Go Home Yet.” Poetry and dance at the BCC, featuring Violeta Gil.

November’s program will kick off on the 3rd with a new installment of “Cine en la Octava,” dedicated this time to filmmaker Xavier Dolan.

On November 4, Jacobo Bergareche will present “Tío grande” at an event featuring Estepona’s mayor, José María García Urbano.

On the 5th, there will be a double feature. At 1:00 p.m., Martí Madula will participate in “Filmar los dieciséis años,” a session with local schools, and at 8:00 p.m., he will lead the film and writing workshop “Dirigirse al vacío: cine, correspondencia y distancia.”

Philosophy takes center stage on November 6 with the lecture “Heartbeats of Reason: An Introduction to Philosophy,” presented by Miguel Palma Molina.

On November 13, researcher and poet Víctor Bayona will lead the writing workshop “Imitating AI: Writing Through Technology.” The following day, Raúl Marín Calleja and Muak Studio will offer the workshop “You’re Missing the Community: Design, Urban Transformation, and Memory.”

Latin American literature will take center stage on November 18 with a book club dedicated to the Chilean poet Alejandro Zambra. On the 19th, designer Pau Aulí will lead the film and design workshop “Poetics and Attire.” Film will close out the month with a screening dedicated to Jim Jarmusch on November 24.

One of the highlights of the fall program will take place on November 26, with the celebration of the second anniversary of the Library of Contemporary Cultures, featuring a discussion with Manuel Jabois and a concert by Al-Balanc.

The program for the last month of the year will begin on December 1 with a new installment of “Cinema at La Octava,” dedicated to filmmaker John Cassavetes.

On December 16, the book club will focus on *Principio, medio, fin* by writer Valeria Luiselli, one of the most prominent voices in contemporary literature.

The quarter will conclude on December 18 with music. Josema García Hormigo will present the concert “The Composer at the Piano: Original Works Adapted for Piano,” a performance that will serve as the grand finale to a program marked by dialogue between different artistic disciplines.

The Library of Contemporary Cultures, located at the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center, continues to strengthen its commitment to making contemporary culture an accessible meeting place for all audiences.

The new program thus maintains an approach based on the combination of literature, film, music, poetry, philosophy, and artistic creation, with activities designed to foster both knowledge and participation, as well as dialogue between creators and audiences.

With this program, the Library enters the final quarter of 2026 by reinforcing its mission as an open, interdisciplinary cultural space connected to new forms of creation, while continuing to incorporate authors, artists, musicians, filmmakers, and thinkers from various fields into its programming.
