The City Council is introducing young people to the province’s natural and cultural wealth through new free trips

The “Get to Know Your Surroundings, Get to Know Your Province” program resumes in October with four itineraries that include hiking, cultural tours, and educational activities

The Estepona City Council announces that the municipal Youth Department will resume the “Get to Know Your Surroundings, Get to Know Your Province” project this October, an initiative that offers free trips and excursions for young people between the ages of 18 and 35. The project aims to introduce young people to the natural, cultural, and heritage riches of Estepona and the province of Málaga.

This initiative, which is completely free for young residents, includes four itineraries through the end of the year that combine hiking, cultural visits, and educational activities in the natural surroundings of Estepona and other municipalities in the province of Málaga. Highlights among the routes include a hike along the Camino Nicola on October 17, a visit to the Caminito del Rey and Ardales on October 24, a hiking route along the Pico de Los Reales in the Sierra Bermeja on November 21, and a trip to Málaga to explore its museums and Christmas lights on December 12.

Spaces for the activities are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, the program will promote gender equality and the inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community and people with disabilities. Each excursion will feature specialized coordinators and informational materials provided by the tourist offices of the destinations visited. Those interested can register by sending an email to juventud@estepona.es by October 7 for the visit to the Caminito del Rey and by October 9 for the hiking trail along the Camino Nicola.

Julia Simón, the city councilor in charge of Youth Affairs, noted that this initiative was created with the aim of fostering respect for and conservation of the environment, promoting healthy leisure activities, and reinforcing social and educational values among young people. It also aims to foster knowledge of and appreciation for the cultural and natural richness of their immediate surroundings, encouraging young people to actively participate in the protection, conservation, and enjoyment of their heritage.

The “Get to Know Your Surroundings, Get to Know Your Province” project directly contributes to the well-being and health of young people through outdoor activities in natural and healthy settings. The initiative also reflects a commitment to sustainability and environmental education, while fostering the personal and social development of young people. In this way, it offers the youth of Estepona the opportunity to enjoy safe, inclusive, and enriching experiences that combine recreation, learning, and interaction with the environment.
