Estepona City Council organizes various activities to celebrate International Book Day 2026

The program of activities on Thursday 23rd will start with the awarding of prizes to the winners of the ‘V Bookface Contest’.
At 5:30 pm, there will be a storyteller in the Children’s Room of the Municipal Library, in the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, and the Library of Contemporary Cultures will host at 8:00 pm a translation and writing workshop.
The City Council of Estepona will commemorate next Thursday, April 23, the International Book Day, with a program of activities with the aim of promoting reading.
The activities will begin at 12:00 pm, at the Town Hall, with the presentation of prizes to the winners of the ‘V Bookface Contest’, which rewards the art of merging with the cover of a book. The jury will select the three best photographs, based on criteria such as creativity, technique and originality, which will be awarded 150, 100 and 50 euros, respectively.
On the other hand, at 17:30 hours will take place in the Children’s Room ‘Elvira Lindo’ of the Municipal Library, the Storytelling session ‘Stories to love books’, by the teacher Vanessa Lopez Morales, a family activity in a cozy space, recommended for children between 3 and 8 years, to encourage the love of reading and books, with free access until full capacity. Through stories full of emotion, humor and values, the public will enjoy a participatory experience that turns books into a shared family adventure.
In addition, the Library of Contemporary Cultures will host at 8:00 p.m. the Translation and Writing Workshop ‘Antes de llegar a tus manos’, given by the translator Elías Ortigosa, with free attendance, prior registration at bcc@estepona.es.
International Book Day is a worldwide commemoration celebrated every April 23, promoted by UNESCO since 1988, with the aim of promoting reading, the publishing industry and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.
It is a symbolic day for world literature, since on April 23, 1616 three great writers of world literature died: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega.
