The City Council will immediately undertake a comprehensive renovation of Fuerzas Armadas Square and its surrounding area to transform them into a premier public space

This area will be modernized through a comprehensive renovation of the water supply and sewer systems, new natural stone paving, renovation of green spaces and landscaping, the creation of ornamental fountains, street lighting and scenic lighting, and a children’s play area.

The Estepona City Council announces that it will immediately begin a comprehensive renovation of Fuerzas Armadas Square and its surrounding area (Fuerzas Armadas and Independencia streets), one of the city’s most significant public spaces.

With the goal of making it a landmark—both due to its location in the city center and the significance it holds for the neighborhood—the City Council has planned its comprehensive renovation and modernization through an ambitious series of projects that will extend to Independencia and Fuerzas Armadas streets.

The proposed project includes a comprehensive renovation of the water supply and sewer systems—covering both wastewater and stormwater—as well as the complete repaving of the entire area with natural stone, since the current plaza and its surroundings are outdated, deteriorated, and present a disjointed appearance due to the accumulation of different types of paving. Access areas will also be created with new ramps adapted for people with limited mobility.

To further enhance this space, the green areas and landscaping will be renovated, and ornamental fountains will be installed, along with new public and scenic lighting in both the green areas and around the fountains, in keeping with the new look of the plaza and its surroundings. The square’s appearance and functionality will be enhanced with new street furniture. It is worth noting that this entire project has taken into account all the suggestions and input provided by residents and representatives of the homeowners’ associations in this area.

Specific drainage and waterproofing measures will also be implemented, both for the planters adjacent to the surrounding buildings and along the perimeter of the Peña Flamenca premises. The project includes the preservation of existing parking spaces within the project area.

This project will bring about a true transformation of the Fuerzas Armadas neighborhood, serving as a landmark urban initiative that further strengthens the “Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol” initiative. Once the work is completed, residents will be able to enjoy an environment better suited to their needs, more accessible, and offering a higher quality of life.
