The area surrounding the Carmen Church is now open to the public and to vehicular traffic following the completion of the infrastructure projects

The project restores the connection between Manuel Navarro Mollor Street and Virgen del Mar Square and completes the renovation of the surface of the new El Carmen parking lot

The Estepona City Council reports that the area surrounding the Carmen Church has now been reopened to the public and to vehicular traffic following the completion of the surface-level infrastructure work carried out as part of the construction of the new El Carmen public parking lot.

The opening restores the connection between Manuel Navarro Mollor Street and Virgen del Mar Square, while providing residents with a completely remodeled space right in the heart of downtown.

With the opening of this area, vehicular traffic has resumed normal operations in the zone. Manuel Navarro Mollor Street remains a two-way street, while the connection from this street to Virgen del Mar Plaza is now one-way.

The exterior urban development work has allowed for the completion of the renovation of the entire area associated with the construction of the underground parking garage, including the streets and public spaces surrounding the Carmen Church. The project included the renewal of the pavement and the adaptation of spaces designated for both pedestrian traffic and vehicular traffic.

The renovation was rounded out with a major landscaping project, which included planting some thirty palm trees and 35 shade trees of various species, such as mulberry and tipuana trees, as well as more than a hundred medium-sized palm trees, including cycads, and shrub species such as crotons and dracaenas. Flowering groundcover plants have also been added, including euphorbias, coreopsis, and alternanthera, as well as lawns in certain areas. The project is rounded out by the installation of a drip and sprinkler irrigation system.

Thus, once the work is completed, residents and visitors will once again have full access to this urban space, while also improving the connection between the various streets in this area of downtown Estepona.

This surface-level project complements the construction of the new El Carmen public parking garage, which will feature more than 300 spaces spread across three underground levels. The project’s execution presented significant technical challenges due to its location in the heart of the city center and the proximity of adjacent buildings.

In recent months, work has focused on completing the paving and street improvements of the surrounding streets—including Manuel Navarro Mollor, Padre Fernando, and Guadiaro—as well as finalizing the layout of the new public space located above the parking garage.

With the opening to the public and to vehicular traffic, the area surrounding the Church of El Carmen has regained its connection and normal use, thus completing the exterior urban development work associated with the construction of the new parking garage.
