The City Council is allocating more than 120,000 euros for improvements to municipal preschools

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, met today with the instructors at these centers to mark the start of the 2026–2027 school year

This summer, the Estepona City Council has invested more than 120,000 euros in improvements to the five municipal preschools. Mayor José María García Urbano explained this during a meeting he held with all the teachers at these centers to mark the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

The mayor noted that numerous improvements have been made at these preschools, which have enrolled a total of 377 students. Among the most significant improvements is the installation of a new air conditioning system at Los Pitufos, while at the Cancelada preschool, laminate flooring has been installed and the exterior of the building has been painted.

Likewise, at the El Mar preschool, safety surfacing is being installed in its two playgrounds, with this work scheduled to take place throughout September.

In addition to this investment, another 50,000 euros were allocated for maintenance work carried out over the summer at the five municipal preschools, with the goal of ensuring the centers are in the best possible condition to welcome students at the start of the school year.

The main new development this school year is that the socio-educational support service for one- and two-year-olds at centers participating in the “Family Assistance Program” will be free of charge. As a result, all one- and two-year-old children will be able to benefit from this measure implemented by the Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training of the Regional Government of Andalusia.

The mayor highlighted the City Council’s commitment to the continuous improvement of municipal educational facilities and praised the work carried out daily by early childhood education professionals to provide quality care for the children of Estepona.

Second Phase of the Municipal Air Conditioning Plan

Furthermore, it should be noted that the Estepona City Council continues to make progress on the climate control plan for the city’s educational centers, with the goal of improving comfort conditions in classrooms year-round.

The second phase of this program involves the installation of 35 new cooling and heating units, representing an investment of 64,000 euros. The work includes projects at the Valeriano López, Víctor de la Serna, Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Santo Tomás de Aquino, Gloria Fuertes, and Ramón García schools, as well as at the municipal preschools Los Pitufos, El Mar, and Calancha.

This initiative builds on the first phase of the plan, in which the City Council purchased and installed fifty climate control units at a cost of 60,000 euros.

In this way, the City Council continues to gradually install cooling, ventilation, and heating systems in educational facilities that still require them, with special attention given to classrooms for the youngest students.

More Than 800,000 Euros to Improve Educational Facilities

These initiatives are part of a historic investment of more than 800,000 euros that the Estepona City Council is allocating to improve 18 educational facilities in the city, including elementary schools and preschools.

In addition to routine maintenance work, the program includes larger-scale projects to improve the safety, functionality, and condition of the facilities. These include the complete renovation of restrooms and exterior walkways, the refurbishment of playgrounds and sports fields, the renovation of bleachers and walls, and the replacement of wall coverings and flooring.

Laminate flooring is also being installed in classrooms, and safety surfacing is being laid in playgrounds at various elementary and preschool schools.

Through these initiatives, the City Council aims to ensure that the city’s educational institutions have spaces that are increasingly safe, comfortable, and adapted to the needs of students and the entire educational community.
