The City Council joins Cudeca Foundation’s ‘Eres Pieza Clave’ campaign to raise funds for its Hospitalization Unit.

This is a micro-donation campaign that will run until January 2026 with the aim of raising 355,000 euros.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the financial director of the Cudeca Foundation, Rafael Olalla, today presented the solidarity campaign ‘Eres Pieza Clave’ (You are a Key Piece). This is an initiative of the Cudeca Foundation that aims to raise 355,000 euros to cover part of the costs of its Hospitalization Unit, an essential resource that each year offers specialized palliative care to more than 240 patients with complex needs.

The alderman has encouraged citizens, companies and institutions to join this campaign, which will end in January. He also stressed the municipality’s commitment to the social and health work carried out by the Cudeca Foundation for more than 30 years.

In this sense, he stated that “it is an honor for Estepona to host this campaign. Cudeca represents humanity, professionalism and an exemplary commitment to those going through one of the most difficult moments of their lives. Its Hospitalization Unit is a haven of peace, dignity and advanced care, and deserves all our support”.

García Urbano has invited everyone to collaborate because “every contribution, no matter how small, contributes to Cudeca being able to continue offering the care that so many families need”.

The ‘Eres Pieza Clave’ campaign aims to cover the 355,000 euros that the Foundation must finance annually to keep the Hospitalization Unit in operation. This service has 10 single rooms, a 24-hour multidisciplinary team, and an environment designed to provide physical and emotional well-being, including direct access to the garden and a system that allows the patient’s bed to be moved outside. The total annual cost of the service amounts to 735,000 euros, of which 380,000 euros are covered by an agreement with the Andalusian Health Service and the rest depends exclusively on donations.

Rafael Olalla, Cudeca’s financial director, recalled that demand has grown by 22.4 percent in the last five years, and that the Foundation cared for 1,934 people in 2024, also offering support to thousands of family members.

All donations are eligible for tax deduction (up to 80% for individuals and 40% for legal entities).

It has already cared for more than 21,000 patients, following a model of comprehensive care that accompanies both the sick person and his or her family.
