The City Council will continue with the pioneering project of bringing live singing to senior citizen residences and the Alzheimer’s Day Center.

The managers of the centers where this therapeutic project, called ‘El sonido te embellece, Mayor’, has been carried out have noted a significant improvement in the overall well-being of its users. The professional singer, Ana Fargas, is in charge of the sessions in which she performs popular songs, flamenco, sevillanas, copla or boleros.
Estepona City Council reports that the music therapy program for seniors for active aging through music, will continue. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of the Sociocultural Area, Paula Herrera, who presented the results of this therapeutic project called ‘The sound beautifies you, Mayor’, developed in the homes for the elderly of Estepona and Isdabe and Alzheimer’s Day Center.
The mayor, who has been accompanied by the professional singer and technician in ‘Care for people in situations of dependence’, Ana Fargas, co-author of the project, along with psychologist Silvia Luna, has welcomed the positive results of this pioneering experience in the city, whose preliminary phase has lasted three months, between October and December last.
During this period, Ana Fargas has given a total of 72 musical sessions, 24 in each center, in which she has sung coplas, pasodobles, flamenco and boleros, interacting with the elderly and patients with cognitive impairment of these centers, who have been able to work memory, remembering and interpreting songs that were significant in their past.
After this initial phase of the project, both the management and professionals of the Alzheimer Day Center of Estepona, and the Residence DOMUS VI Isdabe and Virgen del Carmen of Estepona, have noted a marked improvement in the overall welfare of its users, physical, cognitive, emotional, social and behavioral, so they agree to evaluate very positively the project delivery.
The municipal responsible has explained that for the Consistory is a priority for the elderly to benefit from all activities and actions that improve their quality of life, so, she announced, “the program of music therapy and live singing will continue between April and December this year, and will also be held at the Residence Vitalia Isdabe”.
