Work on the new water tank in Las Mesas, which extends the guarantee of supply in the city, enters its final stretch.

The new infrastructure, which is being completed in Las Mesas, will increase the capacity of the existing reservoir in the area by a factor of 15.

The works, which began in January 2022, represent an investment of more than 3.7 million euros.

The Estepona City Council informs that the works of the new drinking water reservoir of the city, which is being built in the area of Las Mesas, are in their final stretch after reaching 90 percent of its execution.

This new infrastructure, which will have a capacity of 15,000 cubic meters, will significantly expand the possibility of storing drinking water for the municipality, as it will multiply by 15 the capacity of the current existing tank in the area. In this way, the town will be provided with greater water independence and improvements in the networks in the area between Avenida Andalucía and the area of La Cala.

The new water infrastructure, which will be completed in the coming weeks, will extend the supply guarantee of Estepona, covering the needs in times of peak demand.

The work, which is being executed by the Consistory and Hidralia, the company that manages the integral water cycle in Estepona, began in January 2022. With an investment of more than 3.7 million euros, included in the canon of infrastructure improvement, the new reservoir will have two vessels of 7,500 cubic meters each to improve its operation and maintenance.

The works include the installation of the inlet and outlet networks of the reservoir. During construction, 270 tons of steel and 5,000 cubic meters of concrete were used.

This project is included in the Estepona Water Supply Master Plan, which aims to execute works worth 22.7 million euros in the water network until 2030, thus guaranteeing the supply throughout the municipality and improving the quality in the areas experiencing the greatest population growth.

The new reservoir will become even more important when the next action planned by the City Council and Hidralia is executed, which will consist of the installation of a supply pipeline that will interconnect the networks of the eastern area of the municipality (Selwo) with those of the urban area and the west area (Buenas Noches urbanization limit).
