Action: City participates in the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”

On the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”, which is marked on Friday, 25 November, the City of Estepona participates with a series of events.

Already on Thursday, 24 November, the City Council will hold a minute’s silence for the victims of gender-based violence during the plenary session. This will be followed by a reading in the María Zambrano Library of the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre from 6.30 pm. There, among other things, the winning letters of a competition will be read out, in which the best letters written by women were chosen.

On Friday, there will be a training session for health workers at the Lobilla Health Centre. During this training, staff from the Centro Municipal de Información a la Mujer (CMIM) will sensitise them to recognise gender-based violence.

A rally in front of their headquarters will be organised by the Peñas Blancas Women’s Association at 11.30 am. Finally, a commemoration ceremony will take place at 12.30 p.m. in the Plaza Antonia Guerrero.

In order to also raise public awareness of the issue, public buildings and fountains in Estepona will be illuminated at night in different colours: the colour purple is to remind people of the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women” per se, while the colour orange stands for the commitment to eliminate violence.
