The City Council opens the registration period for the ‘Burning of the Moustaches of San Juan’ 2026 contest.

The ‘Quemas’ can be registered until June 12 at the General Register of the City Council, and will be set on fire on Tuesday, June 23, at La Rada Beach, at 00:00 hours, at the beginning of the Night of San Juan.
The City Council of Estepona has opened the registration period to participate in the XLVI Contest ‘Burning of the Whiskers of San Juan’, to be held on June 23 on the beach of La Rada.
According to the rules of this local contest, the Councillor for Festivities Macarena Diánez, has announced that all natural and legal persons, brotherhoods, fraternities and neighborhood associations who wish to participate may do so.
Applications for registration are listed in Annex I of the Rules, and may be made in person or by Electronic Headquarters, in the General Register of the City Council, addressed to the municipal delegation of Festivals, from May 11 to June 12, 2026, inclusive. Participants must provide the sketches of the design of the Burning. The rules can be consulted at www.estepona.es, on the Notice Board located in the Electronic Services section.
All the Burns presented to contest will be installed in the area delimited by the City Council, in La Rada Beach. The motif of the Burn, as well as the dimensions, will be of free choice. Will not be admitted to the contest those designs that violate the right to honor, personal and family privacy, or those that are disrespectful to religious beliefs and / or sexual condition of people, or containing xenophobic messages.
The municipal delegation of Festivities has established the following prizes for the best Burns: First Prize, 1,000 euros + trophy; Second Prize, 750 euros + Trophy; Third Prize, 500 euros + Trophy, and fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh prize, 300 euros each.
The jury, which will be composed of the Councillor for Festivities or person delegated by her, acting as members a member of each registered Quema, not being able to vote on their proposal, will visit each of the Quemas from 21:00 hours. Prizes will be awarded for the theme of the Quema, artistic quality, ingenuity, tradition, humor and originality, and the atmosphere and popularity of the Quema.
The Quemas participating in the contest will be set on fire from 00:00 hours, at the beginning of the Night of San Juan.
The City Council reserves the possibility of pardoning any of the Quemas presented to the contest, which by its uniqueness is likely to be used in any other municipal event.
