Estepona will host this weekend the final phase of the Andalusian Climbing Championship in school age 2026.

More than one hundred athletes are expected to compete in the U15 and U17 categories.

The councilman attached to the delegation of Sports, Luis Gil; and the representative of the Mountain Group Estepona GRUME, Francisco Jimenez, today presented the Andalusian Climbing Championship in school age 2026, whose final phase will be held this weekend in Estepona.

This competition, organized by the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, Climbing and Hiking and the C.D. Estepona Mountain Group (GRUME), with the collaboration of the City Council, and is part of the plan to promote mountaineering among children. The event will take place in the climbing wall of Estepona on 16 and 17 May 2026.

Luis Gil has emphasized that the objective of the City Council is to encourage, foster and promote the realization of sporting events in our city. That is why the City Council strives to create new sports venues and improve existing facilities in the municipality. In this regard, he noted that the construction of the professional climbing wall at the fairgrounds, sports and leisure has allowed many fans to practice this sport in Estepona.

The categories that are called for the final phase of the Andalusian Championship Climbing School Age Combined and Individual Speed by Provincial Selections, are U15 for athletes who turn between 13 and 14 years between January 1 and December 31 this year, and U17 for athletes who turn between 15 and 16 years between January 1 and December 31 this year.

A maximum participation of 126 athletes is estimated. The competition schedule is as follows:

– Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 am to 9:30 pm. With an intermediate stop at 14:30 h for lunch for the athletes.

– Sunday, May 17, from 09:00 h to 15:00 h.

Medals will be awarded to the first three classified in the combined modality (block and difficulty) and in the speed modality, in each of the categories. There will also be trophies for the first three provincial teams classified in each category and sex, and for the first three with more points added among the total of its participants.
