Journalist Rubén Amón presents his book ‘Morante, punto y aparte’ this Friday at Mirador del Carmen

The talk, which will begin at 8:00 p.m., will be moderated by journalist Paco Reyero.

The Estepona City Council informs that this Friday, May 22, the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center will host the presentation of ‘Morante, punto y aparte’, the latest book by journalist and writer Rubén Amón.

The event, which will be moderated by the journalist Paco Reyero, will begin at 20.00 hours. Admission will be free until full capacity is reached.

In this new work, Rubén Amón addresses the reasons and the reasons without reasons why the bullfighter Morante de la Puebla became a mass phenomenon, a countercultural idol and an extreme artistic representation. The journalist stresses that “Morante is not just a bullfighter. He is an event. A category. A civil religion. An artist who has crossed time and bullfighting to become a social, political, cultural and aesthetic figure of the first order”.

In his book, Amón has wanted to narrate what has happened with this character even though no one has been able to explain it all. “Because Morantism is not a fashion: it is a symptom, a way of understanding art, a mystery, identity and nostalgia,” says the author.

The result is “a lively, literary, critical and passionate work, which does not intend to domesticate Morante, but to accompany his enigma. There is reflection but also informative urgency. Morante punto y aparte is a suggestive and exciting mixture of journalistic chronicle and conscientious essay”.

Rubén Amón is a journalist and writer whose professional career began at the age of 18 in Antena 3 Radio. From there he moved to El Mundo in 1990, in Culture, before becoming a war envoy in the Balkans, and correspondent in Rome and Paris.

He has written for different foreign newspapers (Reforma de México, Corriere della Sera, Libèration), has been a columnist and reporter for El País and since 2019 has been a columnist for El Confidencial. His various books and essays cover topics as diverse as bullfighting, soccer, politics or opera.

Since 2015 he has collaborated in the radio program Más de uno, of Onda Cero, together with Carlos Alsina. Currently he also directs and presents the weekly program La Cultureta on Onda Cero.

Since 2021 he has participated in the current affairs talk show El Hormiguero 3.0.
