This Saturday, the City Council is organizing “La Gran Espetada,” a free tasting of 350 kilos of sardines grilled by the province’s best grill masters

The celebration will take place starting at 8:00 p.m. next to the breakwater at the fishing port. The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Carmen the Crowned will set up a charity food stand with affordable prices.

The Estepona City Council announces that this Saturday, September 5, “La Gran Espetada” will take place—a free tasting of 350 kilos of grilled sardines prepared by some of the province’s best grill masters.

Macarena Diánez, the councilwoman in charge of Culture and Festivals, explained that the City Council has organized this event to recognize the cultural and heritage value of one of Estepona’s most deeply rooted summer culinary traditions.

“This culinary technique has been used for many generations along our coast, becoming a true symbol of our city. That’s why we want to honor it, and to do so, we’ll be featuring some of the best professionals in the province,” the councilwoman noted.

The four “espeteros” (fish skewers) participating are Miguel León, Alfonso Marín, Miguel Saint, and Nicolás Joaquín Gavín, all of whom have won awards in various competitions specializing in the art of the “espeto.” These professionals will be in charge of skewering and grilling the fish over a wood fire on the beach.

As for the location, Diánez indicated that the espetada will take place, starting at 8:00 p.m., on the shipowners’ esplanade located next to the breakwater at the Fishing Port.

Furthermore, the head of the Culture and Festivals Department noted that the event will also feature a charity bar with affordable prices, which will be managed by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Carmen Coronada. In addition, a DJ will be on hand to provide background music to liven up the espetada.
