Brotherhoods, groups and neighbors will set up their crosses in different parts of the town.
The jury of the contest organized by the City Council will value the beauty, ornamentation, adequacy to the tradition, and the craftsmanship of the details used.
The Estepona Town Hall informs that next Wednesday, May 1st, a new edition of the ‘Cruces de Mayo’ contest will be held, the traditional popular contest in which the beauty of these altars will be awarded.
With this contest, the Consistory intends to maintain the popular roots for this tradition, while offering another attraction to visitors to the historic center. This year a total of seven altars made by brotherhoods, groups and neighbors will participate.
The jury, which will be composed of technicians of the municipal delegation of Parks and Gardens and members of neighborhood groups, will visit the altars from 12:00 noon, unannounced, to assess the beauty of the Cross, the ornamentation of the place where it is installed, the adequacy of tradition, and craftsmanship and details used in the set of the Cross.
The mayor of Fiestas, Macarena Diánez, has indicated that in this new edition has been convened a single category for the best cross in streets or squares, whose top three winners will receive 1,000, 500 and 300 euros, respectively, plus four runners-up prizes of 200 euros.
The different ‘Crosses’ will have bars so that citizens can enjoy food and drinks while enjoying this tradition.
