Sport: Registrations for the half marathon open

For the II Half Marathon “Senda Litoral de Estepona ‘Trofeo Ikos Andalusia’” on Sunday, 30 April, runners can still register until Wednesday, 26 April, 2 pm. Registration must be done via the site dorsalchip.es. A maximum of 700 runners can participate, competing in different age groups. People with disabilities can also participate. From a degree of disability of 33 percent, it is also possible to start in a separate category.

The winner in the main category will receive 1,000 euros each. In addition, further cash prizes will be awarded to the best runners.

The half marathon over a total of 21.0975 kilometres will start at 9.30 a.m. in Calle Montemayor in Cancelada. The first five kilometres will lead through the urbanisations of this city centre to the first aid station (km 5). There, the route begins along the coastal corridor to the promenade of Estepona, which the runners will run along until they reach the fishing port.

They will then go around the lighthouse and follow the route along Avenida de España until the intersection with Avenida Andalucía. Then they cross Plaza Ortiz to turn into Calle Real and at the end they meet Avenida Juan Carlos I until they reach Parque Ferial y Deportivo and the finish in the athletics stadium.

The course is considered challenging as it takes runners over different surfaces such as concrete, earth and wooden bridges.

Four aid stations will be set up for the runners, at kilometres 5, 10, 15 and 19, and the organisers will also provide buses to transport runners to the start area and a cloakroom vehicle.

The route will be controlled at all times by security forces, civil defence and volunteers. There will also be checkpoints along the route with judges from the Andalusian Athletics Federation present.

According to the organisers, more than 400 participants have already registered. There is also a T-shirt that the Estepona Athletics Club, the Ikos Andalusia Hotel and the town recently launched.
