Casa de Las Tejerinas hosts an exhibition of artists of the 1980s generation in Cuba
The exhibition ‘More was lost in Cuba, Homage to Aldo Menéndez’, with funds from the collection of Jorge Reynardus, can be visited from March 18 to May 3.
The Estepona City Hall informs that the Casa de Las Tejerinas will host from March 18 an exhibition of contemporary art by artists of the 1980s generation in Cuba, who had to leave their country and reside, for the most part, in the U.S., Spain and Mexico.
The show is titled ‘More was lost in Cuba-Homage to Aldo Menendez’ and belongs to the collection of Jorge Reynardus. Considered a pioneer in the world of Hispanic advertising, he holds a prominent place among collectors of Cuban art and is the founder of The Cuban Art Alliance. The double meaning of the title reflects, on the one hand, the immigration of Andalusians to Cuba and, on the other, the artists that Cuba lost in the diaspora of the 1990s. One of the objectives of this presentation is to stimulate cultural exchange between Estepona and other communities that share an interest in the arts.
Aldo Menendez, the honoree, is a renowned Cuban artist who lived for many years in Spain and died in Miami in 2020. Menendez directed the Porto Carrero Workshop in Cuba, where these creatives learned the art of printing, and is recognized as a multifaceted creator: painter, graphic designer, silkscreen expert, art critic, exhibition curator, author of several monographs and editor of the book ‘Artistas en el Purgatorio’ (Artists in Purgatory). In 1987, the Ministry of Culture in Cuba awarded him the prize of the National Order of Cuban Culture.
The art exhibition includes works by more than thirty artists: Aldito Menendez (son of Aldo), Arturo Cuenca, Pepe Franco, Yovani Bauta, Leandro Soto, Gustavo Acosta, Yvonne Ferrer, Carlos Rodriguez Cardenas, Flavio Garciandía, Rogelio López Marín (Gory), Ciro Quintana, Jose Bedia, Renelio Marin, Glexis Novoa, Humberto Castro, Segundo Planes, Adriano Buergo, Tomas Esson, Ana Albertina Delgado, Nestor Arenas, Sosa Bravo, Carlos Luna, Pablo Carreño, Israel Leon, Ofill Echevarría, Pepe Herrera, Nicolas Lara, Pedro Vizcaíno, Alejandro Aguilera, Enrique Gay Garcia, Carlos González, Armando Guiller, and Mario Almaguer.
The exhibition can be visited until May 3, from Tuesday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with free access.
