The City Council cleans and clears 269 kilometers of rural roads and plots to prevent forest fires.

The operational brigade of Agriculture carries out these works throughout the year, but they are intensified during the summer period.
In the last year has also intervened in 13 kilometers of riverbeds and streams.
The Estepona City Council has undertaken in the last year works for the maintenance, cleaning and clearing of rural roads in 269 kilometers throughout the municipality. It has also acted in the arrangement of ditches, esplanades and road surfaces in more than 13,480 linear meters, and in the cleaning and conditioning of 16.60 hectares of municipal plots.
The municipal operational brigade of Agriculture is responsible for carrying out these tasks, which are executed preventively throughout the year to prevent forest fires, but also to prevent incidents in the event of heavy rainfall or visibility problems for drivers traveling on these roads.
Specifically, during the last year, both sides of 134.5 kilometers of roads have been cleared, for a total of 269 kilometers. Various actions have also been carried out to repair ditches, esplanades and road surfaces on more than 13,480 linear meters. As for the clearing of stream beds, work has been carried out to clean and conserve riverbeds, with a total of 12,970 linear meters.
The City Council also acts in the cleaning of municipal plots and, in a subsidiary way, in those private plots in which the owners do not comply with the regulations but it is necessary that they are perfectly preserved due to fire risks. In this sense, the brigade has acted in the last year in 16.60 hectares of municipal plots, representing an increase of 23.05% over the previous year. As for the subsidiary plots, it has intervened on 0.78 hectares, an increase of 65.96%.
As of today, the workers are carrying out actions between new work reports and maintenance work. These will be joined, after the summer period, the tasks for cleaning and clearing of streams and riverbeds that run through urban sections. The Junta de Andalucía urges not to act from spring and during the summer on the banks of the rivers to respect the biological cycle that coincides with the laying of eggs of the fauna of the area, hence these works are suspended in these months.
The objective of these tasks is to free these spaces from obstacles that could impede their normal drainage, while also avoiding the formation of blockages that could cause flooding in the event of heavy rainfall.
The agricultural brigade has for these works 2 trucks of 3,500 kilos of 6 seats and open box, 2 mixed retro machines, 13 brush cutters, 2 blowers, 4 chainsaws and 2 extendable chainsaws with pole. A new rotating machine has recently been added, allowing better visibility and unobstructed visibility in all directions. It is easy to maintain and allows clearing, digging, moving and lifting with greater agility and accessing more complicated areas.
It should be remembered that the City Council only has the authority to act in areas that are in urban areas, while the Junta de Andalucía is responsible for the maintenance of those that run in other areas of the municipality.
From the Consistory of Estepona is an appeal to the public about the importance of respecting the environment and avoid depositing or throwing waste that pollute these enclaves.
