The Estepona City Council regrets that Endesa opposes its proposal to guarantee the electricity supply to the Alma building.

The Consistory has received a letter in which the supplier rejects the solution of offering electric power only to this building of the sector to which it belongs, and which is still pending the development of future promotions.

The Estepona City Council today reported that the company Endesa has rejected the latest municipal proposal offered last January to solve the problem of power supply of the Alma building.

The Consistory regrets that the supplier company is opposed to the measure proposed to ensure the electrical connection of this property. This has been made known today by the mayor, José María García Urbano, and the deputy mayor of the area of Development, Infrastructure and Tourism (FIT), Ana Velasco, the representatives of the neighbors during a meeting held at municipal offices.

The City Council proposed to Endesa that only phase 1 of the urbanization project of the ‘La Calera’ sector, i.e., where the Alma building is located, be given an electrical connection. In that sense, the Consistory was willing to process the urban development phase of the project, so that the electrical access would be granted as new promotions were being developed in it. With this measure, the electrical power needed at this time would be much less and the supply would be guaranteed to the only building that is finished and awaiting electricity.

In view of the serious situation in which the owners of the building find themselves in due to the electricity supply problems recognized by Endesa on the Costa del Sol, the Town Council considers that the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge should intervene and mediate in this matter in which they have all the competences, as it was offered to the neighbors.

In that sense, the Consistory points out that these owners cannot be affected by the serious problem that exists in our country to ensure the electricity supply to hundreds of new housing developments. It should be recalled that there are numerous municipalities and associations of the construction sector that are warning of the inability of the central government to supply electricity to new developments that are pending execution in our country.

On the other hand, the City Council has stated that it will continue on the side of the affected neighbors and has recalled that there have been several proposals for solutions that have been raised, without success, to Endesa. Among them, it even proposed the transfer of reserved power for other sectors that have not yet been developed, something that the company did not approve either.

The Consistory has explained that from the beginning of this urban development project it has been diligent with all the procedures required by current legislation, acting in the same scrupulous and responsible manner as with the rest of the urban developments that have been executed in the city since 2011.
