The City Council is putting the finishing touches on construction work at the El Carmen parking lot in preparation for its opening this summer

The new facility will expand the city’s parking options in the downtown area with more than 300 new spaces, which will be added to the more than 2,000 existing spaces under the municipal parking system, with a user fee of 1 euro for the entire day

The Estepona City Council reports that construction on the new public parking garage in El Carmen is entering its final phase, with the goal of opening the facility this summer. Now that the structure of the underground building is complete, efforts are currently focused on the interior installations and finishes of the facility, while at the same time, work is being finalized on the surrounding infrastructure as part of this municipal project.

Specifically, paving on Manuel Navarro Mollor Street has already been completed, while work continues on Padre Fernando and Guadiaro Streets, where progress is well underway. These projects will be completed in the coming weeks. The execution of this project has involved significant technical complexity due to its location in the heart of the city center and adjacent to neighboring buildings, a circumstance that required the work to be carried out with special caution during the initial phases of construction.

Once the work is complete, the City Council will create a new public square in the area, maintain the existing on-street parking spaces, and preserve vehicle traffic, significantly improving the appearance and functionality of this part of the city center.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, emphasized that this project improves mobility and revitalizes this important neighborhood, while also meeting the goal of making daily life more comfortable for residents. Additionally, it promotes economic activity in the city and enhances the quality of public spaces.

The new El Carmen public parking garage will have more than 300 spaces spread across three underground levels. These new spaces will be added to the more than 2,000 existing municipal parking spaces in the city—which charge a rate of 1 euro during the day—located at the new City Hall, Plaza Antonia Guerrero, the Athletics Stadium, Plaza del Ajedrez, and La Viña.

The construction work is being carried out by the company Innovaciones Técnicas y Recursos Constructivos S.A. and represents an investment of more than 10 million euros (VAT included). This project is receiving a grant of 1.4 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union’s Next Generation EU program.
