The City Council has activated the lifeguard and beach patrol service on Estepona’s beaches

The service is available in La Rada, El Cristo, El Padrón, El Saladillo, and Arroyo Vaquero from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. through September 15. In addition, an assisted bathing service for people with limited mobility will be offered in La Rada and El Cristo.

The Estepona City Council announces that, starting today, the lifeguard and beach patrol service is active on the municipality’s beaches. Specifically, the service will be provided at La Rada, El Cristo, El Padrón, El Saladillo, and Arroyo Vaquero, which are the busiest beaches in the municipality.

A team of 47 people will provide assistance continuously for these three months, 8 hours a day, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Sunday.

The operation includes monitoring swimming areas to address any incidents that may occur, as well as search, rescue, and evacuation of victims from the water, as well as informing the public about potential risks associated with swimming, advising on appropriate safety precautions, and providing information on the prohibitions contained in the Ordinance on the Use and Enjoyment of Estepona’s Beaches.

In addition, the service extends to the municipal pools at the Santo Tomás de Aquino sports complex. At this facility, lifeguard and rescue services will be provided from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday, and from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

As for the beaches, the operation will have about thirty personnel. Specifically, La Rada will have 8 water lifeguards and 4 land-based lifeguards; El Cristo will have 3 lifeguards in the water and 1 on land; and El Padrón, Arroyo Vaquero, and El Saladillo will each have 2 lifeguards in the water and 1 on land.

In addition, the lifeguard service has at its disposal an ambulance with a medical transport technician, a land-based lifeguard, and a nurse, as well as a rescue boat with a captain and a water lifeguard.

The company contracted to provide the lifeguard service will also be responsible for equipping the beach stations with medical supplies such as first-aid kits, defibrillators, cervical collars, and all necessary equipment.

In addition, as is customary each season, the daily assisted bathing service for people with reduced mobility will continue to be offered. This free service is provided by social and healthcare technicians and will be available until September 15, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at La Rada and El Cristo beaches.

To enhance beach safety, a Risk Assessment Plan is developed for each beach, along with a corresponding operational plan for the entire swimming season. All of this is carried out in collaboration with the relevant law enforcement agencies.
