Estepona City Council and LexDatos join forces to implement the ‘Ask for Angela’ protocol and reinforce security in the city’s nightlife establishments. This important step reflects the firm commitment of both entities with the safety and welfare of the community, particularly in the nightlife environment of Estepona.
The deputy mayor of the Sociocultural area, Paula Herrera, and the councilor attached to the delegation of Women, Julia Simon, have reported that the protocol ‘Ask for Angela’ is an innovative initiative designed to provide a discreet and effective solution in situations of risk or emergency that may have any customer or client in bars, pubs and other establishments that open at night and can ask for help, discreetly, the staff working in these premises by asking that simple question. In addition, as they have stressed, will increase and strengthen security in Estepona, “as the safety of our residents and visitors is a top priority for the City Council,” said Paula Herrera.
For their part, the General Manager and Technical Director of LexDatos, Bibiana León and David Fournier, respectively, explained that the essence of the protocol lies in its simplicity, so that when a person feels insecure or uncomfortable they can discreetly approach the establishment’s staff and ask the question: “Can I speak to Ángela? or Is Ángela there?”. This phrase triggers an internal protocol that will allow facility staff to take quick and effective action to ensure the safety and well-being of the individual in question.
The company will work closely with participating establishments, which will be given a 2-hour course to train their staff in the procedures necessary to activate and respond to the protocol appropriately. The collaborating establishments will be provided with an identification sticker.
The Estepona City Council and LexDatos invite all interested establishments to join this initiative, which is already being implemented internationally, and to collaborate in the promotion of a culture of safety and wellbeing in the city.
