Estepona City Council reports on the new municipal campaign that is being carried out to raise awareness among users of the Telecare Service, and people who are responsible for their care, about the measures to be taken to prevent the serious consequences of low temperatures.
Through this initiative, the company Tunstall Televida, which manages this service, informs for several weeks, in a personalized way, on how to prevent the effects of cold to this sector of the population, especially vulnerable. Among the general recommendations, it is advisable to consume warm meals such as broths or stews, which will increase the body temperature, as well as fresh foods such as fruits (citrus fruits) and vegetables, as well as nuts and dried fruits.
It is also important to avoid the entry of cold air directly into the lungs, pay attention with hot water bottles or electric mats to avoid burns, moisturize the skin with creams to protect it, do not take any medication on your own, without a doctor’s prescription, and consult about the flu vaccine.
Indoors, it is recommended to ventilate the house long enough, to have a radio and to have a flashlight and spare batteries at hand, to check the condition of heating appliances, to have a minimum stock of medicines, especially if you suffer from a chronic disease, and to try to exercise at home if you do not go outdoors.
When going out of the house, it is recommended not to stay in open spaces and not to stay a long time without moving, as well as to avoid sudden changes in temperature. It is also advised to wear warm and warm clothing and to protect, above all, face and head, to wear waterproof footwear and non-slip soles.
Finally, this service advises users to consult the weather forecast and the state of the road network if they have to travel by road.
