The City Council starts the works of a breakwater wall for the reinforcement of La Cala road.

The works, which will involve an investment of 78,650 euros (VAT included), will have a completion period of one and a half months.
The Estepona City Council informs that today have started the construction works of a breakwater wall for the reinforcement and improvement of the safety of the road to La Cala.
The works, which will involve an investment of 78,650 euros, will have an execution period of 1.5 months. The La Cala road is a communication route widely used by residents of the town, as it links the eastern part of the urban area with scattered areas, agricultural, livestock and maintenance activities.
It is a road that crosses over the AP7 and due to the different activities that are concentrated in the area, it is very busy with a large number of cars and heavy vehicles.
The works are being undertaken because the concentration of water from the river of La Cala in times of heavy storms caused the detachment of a part of the slope that supports the road (about 26 meters), in the section that runs from the Avenida Litoral to when it crosses over the AP7.
The Consistory considered necessary, immediate and urgent the replacement of the damage to the existing containment structure since ancient times to avoid major landslides and other problems that could affect the main trunk of the road.
The deputy mayor of the area of Development, Infrastructure and Tourism (FIT), Ana Velasco, has indicated that the retaining wall of earth with riprap will be executed under the area where the landslides have occurred due to runoff. In addition, works will be carried out to collect the surface water that flows down to the road and along it in order to redirect it to a natural channel and avoid the problems that occur in this area.
Prior to the construction of the breakwater wall, the work will focus on clearing and earth removal until the land is in a sound condition for the retaining wall to be placed.
This action is funded in the extraordinary program of tourism sustainability 2021-2023 in its axis 1 green and sustainable transition of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism in Estepona 2022-2024, funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU.
On the other hand, it should be noted that for the duration of the works, traffic will remain closed in the section affected by this action, so vehicles will have to use the Camino de Los Molinos, La Lobilla or Camino Reinoso as alternative routes.
