The City Council of Estepona, in collaboration with the Press Association of Malaga (APM), offers the elderly population of the municipality to participate in the development of a new edition of its media literacy project for seniors ‘Press without age’.
This initiative, which also involves the ‘La Caixa’ Foundation and the Junta de Andalucía, has among its objectives to bring media literacy to the elderly, in order to minimize the possible digital divide among the older population and contribute, through training, to promote active participation and the use of technologies.
The workshop will be held on October 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31, from 10.00 to 12.00 hours, in the multipurpose room of the Mayor’s Office of Cancelada, in Montemayor Street, 54, where the elderly may attend accompanied by a family member or caregiver to encourage them to participate and help them at home to review the contents acquired.
LEARN HOW TO USE YOUR CELL PHONE, DETECT HOAXES AND FAKE NEWS, DISCOVER ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
In this class, participants will learn in a practical way how news is produced and how to verify information, and will be provided with basic digital tools, useful in everyday life.
The deputy mayor of Extrarradio, Begoña Ortiz, and the councilor attached to the area of Elderly, Daniel Garcia, have highlighted the work of this initiative of the APM aimed at this group, very vulnerable to the changes introduced by new technologies. Thus, they consider that these courses also contribute to enhance the autonomy of these people, since all educational activity is an intellectual exercise, vital for the maintenance of good overall health.
People interested in attending these workshops can register at the Mayor’s Office of Cancelada in Montemayor Street, 54, by calling 952883785 ext. 1152 from 10.00 to 14.00 hours or through the mail tacancelada@estepona.es
