Around a thousand students from Estepona’s schools will participate in the III Urban Orienteering Race.

The activity is aimed at primary and secondary schoolchildren, and will take place on Thursday, March 19, from 09:00 to 14:00 hours, departing from the Paseo Marítimo.
The City Council of Estepona reports that next Thursday, March 19, will be held the III Urban School Orienteering Race, in which it is estimated the participation of about a thousand schoolchildren.
The test, which will have as its starting point the Paseo Marítimo, is to locate beacons in the shortest possible time, with a map that will be delivered at the start, scheduled for 09:00 hours. Each participant will wear an electronic bracelet that will record the passage through the different beacons, which will allow to obtain the final time of each athlete with total accuracy.
After the success obtained in previous events such as the 2nd MOSC – Malaga Orienteering Sprint Camp – Costa del Sol Occidental in 2024, and the II Urban Orienteering Day in 2025, the Consistory bets again for this discipline.
Like the previous ones, this day is aimed at schoolchildren from 5th grade of Primary to 4th of ESO and Bachillerato of the local schools, who participate in the program ‘Orientation in the School’, framed in the School Games Estepona.
The activity is organized by the 24 Hours Sports Foundation, and is carried out in collaboration with the City Council of Estepona, the Andalusian Federation of Orienteering Sports, FADO, the Orienteering Club of Malaga, COMA, and the Provincial Council of Malaga, which make possible that most of the schools and institutes of Estepona have orienteering maps, thus integrating this discipline in Physical Education classes.
This initiative was born with the aim of giving continuity to the excellent response of the educational community and encourage the practice of orienteering sport among school-age participants. The 2025/26 course includes three events: the one held last November at the Fairgrounds, the one on March 19 and, to close the program, the Gran Final Escolar 2026, to be held on June 6 at the San Isidro Labrador Municipal Park in Los Pedregales. This last test will be framed in the XXV Provincial Orienteering Circuit of Malaga, being also scoring for the circuit, which involves almost twenty municipalities.
