The City Council reinforces its environmental commitment by encouraging citizens to participate in the “Ecólatras Andalucía” campaign to promote sustainable projects.

The initiative, led by Ecovidrio together with the Junta de Andalucía and the FAMP, will reward the best recycling and sustainability ideas with up to 2,000 euros.

The City Council of Estepona reports that the municipality joins the II Edition of the campaign “Ecólatras Andalucía”, an initiative promoted by Ecovidrio in collaboration with the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment of the Andalusian Government and the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP), which seeks to recognize and give visibility to the best environmental projects of the autonomous community.

The campaign will run until May 5 and is framed under the slogan “Sustainable Passion” and will involve the participation of 80 Andalusian municipalities. The aim is to involve citizens, associations, schools and local groups in the creation and presentation of initiatives that promote glass recycling and environmental care.

From the Consistory is calling on the residents of Estepona to submit their projects through the digital platform Ecólatras, considered the first community of eco-mobilization in Spain and already has more than 100,000 users committed to the environment.

Proposals may focus on different areas such as environmental awareness, responsible consumption, protection of nature and biodiversity, sustainable innovation or the development of solutions based on the circular economy. All of them must contribute to improve the environment and promote more respectful habits with the planet.

The initiative with the most projection throughout Andalusia will receive recognition and an economic endowment of 2,000 euros for its development. Also, the campaign will recognize the municipalities most committed to sustainability, taking into account aspects such as increased glass recycling, the number of registered initiatives and neighborhood involvement of the platform.

Estepona City Council stresses the importance of such actions to continue moving towards a more sustainable city model, actively involving the population in protecting the environment. In this regard, it recalls that glass recycling is a key element in the fight against climate change, as it allows reuse containers 100% without losing their properties, reduce waste in landfills, save energy and reduce CO2 emissions.

Therefore, the Consistory invites citizens to actively participate in this campaign, submitting their ideas and helping to build a more sustainable future for Estepona and Andalusia.
