The Paula y la Fábrica de Médula association donates 18,000 euros to the José Carreras Foundation against leukemia.

These funds, which will go to the research of leukemia in children in breastfeeding period, have been raised in the last five years by this entity that has the support of the City of Estepona. The mayor, José María García Urbano, has highlighted the great work done by the volunteers of Paula and the Bone Marrow Factory against childhood cancer.

The Mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, today presided over the ceremony in which the association ‘Paula and the Marrow Factory’ donated 18,000 euros to the Josep Carreras Leukemia Foundation. This amount has been raised over the last five years by this local entity which has the support of the Estepona Town Hall.

The president of the association ‘Paula y la Fábrica de Médula’, Inocencio Alarcón, explained that the donation will go towards research to combat leukemia in breastfeeding children. These studies are being carried out by an international team led in Barcelona by Dr. Menéndez.

This research, according to Alarcón, is managed by the Genyo Center, which brings together specialists in multidisciplinary research and where different professionals from the university, health and business sectors interact in the fight against cancer.

The José Carreras Foundation will be in charge of reviewing and coordinating this donation, which has been handed over today in the Plenary Hall of the Consistory.

The councilor praised the “tireless” work of the volunteers of Paula and the Bone Marrow Factory and pointed out that the City Council will continue to support them so that they can continue to help families suffering from childhood cancer. He also emphasized that the José Carreras Foundation has been a reference point in our country for decades for its ability to allocate significant amounts of money to cancer research.

The event was attended by other private entities and organizations from the city that regularly collaborate with the association ‘Paula and the Marrow Factory’. This is the case of the National Police, which has been represented by the Chief Commissioner of Estepona, Lazaro Martin, and the deputy inspector of the delegation of Citizen Participation of the National Police in Estepona, Maria del Mar Perez, or the Civil Guard, with the Sergeant of Estepona Jose Angel Callejon.

Finally, the representative of the Genyo Center, Belén López, thanked for this donation and stressed the importance of this help to continue investigating. She also added that acts like today’s show that “we are not alone in the fight against this disease”.
