The Library of Contemporary Cultures hosts this Thursday the presentation of ‘Sofia and the Mystery of the Sky’.

The book has been written by Esther Ráez with the aim of explaining death, absence and mourning to primary school children.

Estepona City Council reports that this Thursday, May 28, the Library of Contemporary Cultures of Mirador El Carmen will host the presentation of the book ‘Sofia and the mystery of heaven’ by Esther Ráez, a cultural initiative aimed at primary school children to address the issue of death, absence and grief in a respectful, close and constructive way.

The presentation, to be held from 20.00 hours, will be conducted by Nono Rodriguez, teacher of IES Mar de Alboran and friend of the author, and will be attended by Esther Ráez, who will share with the audience the origin and the process of creation of this work. The author is the sister of Pablo Ráez, the young sportsman from Malaga who became a symbol for his fight in defense of bone marrow donation.

The Consistory has shown its support to this project by delivering copies of this work to the 13 primary schools in the city.

During the meeting, more details will be revealed about this illustrated tale, a delicate and profound story that accompanies the youngest children in the understanding of loss and grief through a symbolic story centered on family dialogue, memories and shared memory.

The work, illustrated by Cristina Barba, is aimed at both children and adults who accompany children in complex emotional processes. The project stems from the author’s personal experience and her desire to create a space where children and families can explore loss with careful words, sensitivity and closeness.

Readers will follow the story of Sofia, a little girl who tries to understand the death of her uncle through questions, memories and family routines. Through her eyes, the book proposes an approach to the grieving process that invites to talk about emotions without offering closed answers, encouraging listening, empathy and emotional support.
