The City Council expands the network of sports facilities in the suburbs with the construction of two paddle tennis courts in Nueva Atalaya

The new facilities will be added to the two paddle tennis and soccer courts that already exist in the area.

The Estepona City Council will increase the network of sports facilities in the city with two new paddle tennis courts in the Nueva Atalaya urbanization; specifically, between the streets Nueva Atalaya and Avenida Pernet, for which construction works have already begun.

These spaces in the outskirts of the city will complement the existing public sports facilities in the area, which include a paddle tennis court and a multi-sports court for the practice of indoor soccer, basketball and other sports. The work includes the leveling and improvement of the plot, its clearing, the construction of the new courts, as well as the provision of electricity and rainwater drainage services. The total built area is 400 square meters.

The deputy mayor for Infrastructure, Development and Tourism (FIT), Ana Velasco, emphasizes that the construction of these new courts “will not only expand the options for sports practice, but will also contribute to revitalizing the area and promoting social integration through sport”.

The work was awarded for a budget of 124,503.57 euros, and a completion period of three months.

The City Council has been promoting new sports facilities in the suburban area, such as the recently inaugurated space in Cancelada dedicated to the figure of the young Ignacio Echeverría, who died in a terrorist attack in London in 2017 while trying to defend with his skateboard people who were being attacked by jihadist attackers. This space, which already had a skate park and green areas, has been expanded and improved with new sports facilities: a calisthenics park, two petanque courts and a tennis table.
