The City Council starts the construction of a velodrome, which includes an 11-a-side soccer field and the first rugby facilities in the city.

The initiative contemplates the creation of a periurban park of more than 20,000 square meters. The development of this sector will make it possible to obtain land for more than 300 subsidized housing units.

The Estepona City Council has started the works for the construction of a velodrome, which will be located next to the Monterroso stream and Camino de las Mesas, and which will include facilities for the practice of cycling, 11-a-side soccer and the first rugby in the city.

The project also contemplates the creation of a periurban park with a surface area of more than 20,000 square meters, which will house a sloping cycling track (velodrome), as well as a state-of-the-art artificial turf field prepared to host both rugby and 11-a-side soccer matches.

This oval-shaped cycling stadium will have bleachers distributed over several levels with an initial capacity for a thousand spectators. The complex will also include toilets, changing rooms, gymnasium, offices and storage spaces, thus completing the main service building.

The infrastructure is located on a plot of land for sports facilities in the northwest of the municipality, next to the Monterroso stream and Camino de las Mesas. The first phase of construction will be to provide the land with the corresponding basic services of water, sewage and electricity.

The dimensions of the playing field have been defined in accordance with the criteria established in the Regulations on Sports Facilities and Spaces (NIDE), drawn up by the Higher Sports Council, which includes the technical conditions necessary for the practice of both soccer and rugby. Likewise, the design of the cycling track complies with the specifications set out in the UCI Cycling Sports Regulations.

The action was awarded to the UTE Parque Estepona for an amount of 3,652,569.85 euros (VAT included). The company awarded the contract presented an improvement that represents a reduction on the initial execution period, so that the total duration of the works will be 9 months.

VPO and connection with Parque Ferial

In this same area, the City Council is working on a new project aimed at integrating the Monterroso River into the city, creating an urban area for citizens that will be connected to the Trade Fair and Sports Park, as well as to the urban core of the town.

In addition, the development of this area will be accompanied by the construction of subsidized housing. In this sense, the City Council is working on the administrative process to carry out a planning modification that will allow to obtain land to be used for the construction of about 300 (VPO) in the area of Monterroso.
