The City Council is putting out a bid for construction work to improve accessibility at the elevated pedestrian bridge between El Paraíso and Benamara

The City Council, which has received authorization from the central government after three years of efforts, will take charge of implementing this project to install access ramps that will make it easier for people with limited mobility and cyclists to use this area on the outskirts of Estepona

The City Council has repeatedly urged the central government to address the need for a new access road to Estepona from the A-7 and has offered to cover the cost of this project, which is so essential for mobility in the municipality.

The Estepona City Council reports that it has put out to bid the construction work to improve access to the elevated pedestrian bridge connecting the “El Paraíso” and “Benamara” residential developments. The City Council, which has received authorization from the central government, will cover the cost of the work to improve this infrastructure, which will benefit residents of these outlying areas who regularly use this pedestrian bridge.

Ana Velasco, Deputy Mayor for Infrastructure, has announced that interested parties may submit their bids by 11:59 p.m. on August 12 through the Public Sector Procurement Platform. This public works project has a base bid price of 164,074.97 euros (VAT included).

The councilwoman also explained that this structure, located on the A-7 highway, requires renovation to include access ramps on both sides of the road, constructed of reinforced concrete, with a maximum slope of 12.5%. This will make it easier for older adults and people with limited mobility to use the bridge, as well as for bicycles and baby strollers.

This pedestrian overpass, which was built in the early 1980s by the developers in the area, consists of a composite concrete/steel beam supported by metal columns and is accessible only via staircases with several flights located on both sides of the road.

The Estepona City Council has been working with the central government for three years on this project, which has been strongly requested by residents. In fact, the city administration has allocated funds for this project in the last three municipal budgets.

New Access from the A7

Furthermore, Ana Velasco points out that this is not the only request the City Council has made to the Ministry of Transportation. The City Council has repeatedly highlighted the need for a new access road to the town center of Estepona from the A-7, an infrastructure project that would help improve mobility in the municipality.

In this case, the City Council has offered to fully fund this project because it would provide a solution to the problem that has been worsening at this point on the A-7 in recent years due to the progressive and significant population growth.

The deputy mayor also highlighted other projects the City Council has carried out in recent years to improve connections in the outskirts, such as the new road built to connect Cancelada with Las Joyas, La Resinera, and Selwo, the road connecting Camino de Briján to Cancelada, and the one built to connect Casasola, Atalaya, and Isdabe, among others. In addition to these, other projects are currently being promoted, such as the creation of a pedestrian crossing on the Benahavís road that will connect the Mar y Monte residential developments with Alquería Avenue.
