The City Council collaborates with the 7th edition of the tribute to Salvador Manzanares and Pedro Manrique in which some 200 people will participate dressed in the costumes of 1831.

The program of events will take place on March 1 with the opening speech and on March 2 with the historical reenactment and a Romantic-Liberal parade.

The councilor attached to the delegation of Citizen Participation, Maria Aguilar, and representatives of the Association ‘Manzanares Estepona 1831’, José María Guerrero and Maria de los Angeles Castillo Romero, today presented the events in honor of Salvador Manzanares and Pedro Manrique, which will take place on 1 and 2 March, and have the collaboration of the City of Estepona.

The municipal responsible thanked the important contribution made by this association to enhance and safeguard the history of our city. It has also encouraged citizens to enjoy these days that every day create more interest, counting this year with the participation of about 200 people dressed in the style of 1831, among which are representatives of ten different associations.

For his part, José María Guerrero explained that the program of activities will begin at 18.30 on Friday, March 1, with the opening speech to be given by the journalist Esteponero, Manuel Gonzalo, in the Casa de las Tejerinas. This event, which will be presented by the historian José María Guerrero, will also feature the performance of the poet María de los Ángeles Castillo Romero who will be accompanied on guitar by Javier Arcos.

In addition, as reported by Maria de los Angeles Castillo Romero, the seventh edition of the Historical Recreation and Romantic-Liberal period parade ‘Tribute to Salvador Manzanares and Pedro Manrique’, will take place on Saturday, March 2, through the streets of the historic center of the city.

This route will take place between 11.00 and 14.30 hours, having its points of greatest interest at 11.30 hours at the monument to Salvador Manzanares in Villa Street, at 12.00 hours with the entry of the liberals in Estepona in the Plaza del Reloj and at 12.45 hours with the exhibition of the corpse of Manzanares in the Plaza de las Flores. Then will follow, the tribute to Pedro Manrique Estepona at 13.15 hours in Santa Ana Street, at 13.45 hours will take place the recreation of the shooting of the liberals at the mouth of the river La Cala and finally, at 14.00 hours in the old cemetery, will be held the tribute to the constitutionalists.

The cultural association Manzanares Estepona 1831, ensures the recovery and dissemination of the cultural heritage of Estepona, through the dissemination of the figure of the Spanish hero, minister and military, Salvador Manzanares, killed and buried in Estepona, along with his men.

Likewise, the cult of the young Estepona native Pedro Manrique, assassinated in December 1831, along with General José María Torrijos, has a space within the work carried out by the association.
