Some 1,200 schoolchildren will learn rules to prevent traffic and home accidents in Fundación MAPFRE’s Planet ODS Caravan
It will remain at the Fairgrounds from April 1 to 5 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm for schools. The general public will be able to enjoy the activity from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
The Estepona City Council informs that some 1,200 2nd cycle primary school students (between 8 and 12 years old) of the town will spend from April 1 to 5 by the Caravan Planet ODS of the MAPFRE Foundation, where they will have the opportunity to learn how to take care of themselves and the planet while having fun.
This free educational activity, in which the Estepona City Council collaborates, will bring road safety, prevention of unintentional injuries and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) closer to the students, with the active participation of the teachers, as a key part of their training.
The Planet SDG Caravan activity is divided into three areas of fun and cooperative learning. The first will consist of an ‘Escape Room’ inside the caravan, where, guided by educators, children have to solve different riddles related to healthy, safe and sustainable mobility, injury prevention and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Secondly, there will be a 3S Mobility Circuit: safe, healthy and sustainable, with traffic signs, bicycles and scooters (VMP), with pedestrian areas and streets for children to learn how to move safely as pedestrians and as bicycle and scooter drivers. And finally, there will be a Virtual Home, a space in which different situations related to the prevention of unintentional injuries and accidents are shown, with interactive activities and tests.
The main objectives of this activity are the following: understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), assess their importance and relate them to mobility and unintentional injury prevention; acquire responsible, civic and safe behaviors and attitudes related to mobility and unintentional injury prevention; correctly use the public road in the roles of pedestrian, passenger, cyclist or personal mobility vehicle (PMV) user; prevent traffic accidents and unintentional injuries, reducing risk situations as road users; correctly interpret signage and basic traffic regulations; respect other road users; act as promoters and prescribers of injury prevention in the family and in their environment; understand the concepts of vulnerability and self-protection; and improve the capacity for reflection, initiative and teamwork.
The Planet ODS Caravan will remain at the Fairgrounds from April 1 to 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for schools. The general public can enjoy the activity from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission.
