The City Council continues to improve lighting in the outskirts with another project costing more than half a million euros

The City Council has issued a call for bids to procure 465 new streetlights for various roads and areas on the outskirts of the city. In addition, the City Council is investing nearly 400,000 euros to improve street lighting in several public parks and along seven sections of the coastal corridor.

The Estepona City Council reports that it is continuing with its plan to renovate and modernize streetlights in outlying areas, with the installation of new solar-powered lights that will improve lighting on various roads and promote energy savings and efficiency.

Overall, the project involves the installation of 465 new lights, with a total investment of 560,458 euros (including VAT), comprising the base bid budget of 461,883 euros for the supply and installation of 325 solar streetlights on nine roads, plus 98,575 euros allocated for an additional 140 lights on Montejaque Street, Lima Street, and La Resina Avenue.

The most extensive project involves the installation of 325 solar streetlights on Montesol, Sidney, Guadalobón, Monterroso, Camino de Los Molinos, Velerín, La Cala, and Biosaludable Jesús de Polanco streets, as well as the sidewalks along Avenida de las Palmeras.

In addition, 140 streetlights are planned for Montejaque and Lima Streets and La Resina Avenue, continuing the efforts to improve street lighting in these areas.

The renovation will provide more modern and efficient lighting systems, with lower energy consumption and reduced costs associated with street lighting, while also helping to reduce light pollution and improve the quality of lighting.

These projects complement other recent initiatives the City Council has been carrying out to modernize lighting in various public spaces throughout the city. In this regard, 138 streetlights will also be installed at various points along the coastal corridor, improving lighting conditions on this path that is used daily by residents. Specifically, the new streetlights will be installed in the areas of Isdabe, Benamara, Guadalmansa, La Gaspara, Avenida México, Bahía Dorada 3, and Bahía Dorada Beach. The base budget for this project is 196,123 euros (including VAT).

In addition, the lighting improvement plan has been extended to several parks and green spaces in Estepona, where the lighting systems have been upgraded to provide more efficient and appropriate lighting, while also promoting energy savings and the sustainability of these spaces.

The project involved replacing 350 high-pressure sodium vapor lights with new, state-of-the-art LED fixtures in Parque de la Constitución, Parque Huerta Nueva, Parque de los Derechos Humanos, Parque de los Niños, Parque del Seghers, and Parque Carmen Thyssen. In the latter park, more than a hundred ornamental lighting fixtures have also been installed to enhance its appearance and improve the visitor experience after dark. This project involved an investment of 186,823 euros and has modernized facilities that, in some cases, were more than three decades old.

With these initiatives, the Estepona City Council continues to make progress in renovating public lighting in the outskirts of the city, rolling out more sustainable and efficient solutions throughout the municipality.
