The City Council organizes various activities to celebrate International Book Day 2024
The main activity will take place on Tuesday 23rd, at 6:00 p.m., at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, with the performance of the play ‘Entrepasos y una pregunta’ and the free distribution of books to children to promote reading.
Estepona City Council has organized a program of cultural activities to celebrate International Book Day, a commemoration held every April 23 worldwide, promoted by UNESCO since 1988, with the aim of promoting reading, the publishing industry and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.
To begin with, the municipal delegation of Culture, through the Municipal Public Library, has called the ‘III Bookface Contest’ to reward the most original photographs trying to fit the face or any other part of the body with the cover of a book. Any person from Estepona, regardless of age, can participate in this contest, with a maximum of two unpublished photographs, with the only condition that the title of the book cover must be visible. The photographs should be sent by e-mail to: admbiblioteca@estepona.es in jpg, jpeg or png format.
The deadline for submission will remain open until 24:00 hours on April 19, 2024, and the winner of the contest will receive an endowment of books worth 100 euros, to be chosen from the available stock of the local bookstore designated by the city council.
The program of events will continue on Saturday, April 20, from 11:00 am, at the Fairgrounds, where the Library will participate in the II Marcha Cicloescolar, organized by the CEIP Ntra. Señora del Carmen, with an information table displaying copies of its juvenile and children’s collection with the aim of encouraging reading.
As for Tuesday 23, International Book Day, at 18:00 pm, at the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel, will be the distribution of books for children, while stocks last, and will represent the play ‘Entrepasos and a question’, by the theater workshop of the Delegation of Culture, with free access until full capacity.
The ‘María Zambrano’ room of the Municipal Library, located on the second floor, will host for two weeks a photographic exhibition of JR Korpa, by the artist Javier Rodríguez. Finally, in collaboration with the Municipal Historical Archive, the ‘María Zambrano’ Room will host from April 23 to May 4 an exhibition on Estepona’s bibliographic heritage and authors from Estepona.
