The Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center hosts the presentation of the book ‘Sierra Bermeja. Conservation values and biodiversity of serpentine ecosystems’.

It will take place this coming Friday 19, at 20:00 hours, and will feature the intervention of José Gómez Zotano, Andrés V. Pérez Latorre and José Manuel Dorado Rueda. The event will be presented by the councilman of Historical Heritage, Daniel García.

The City Council of Estepona informs that this Friday, April 19, at 20:00 hours, will take place at the Cultural Center Mirador del Carmen the presentation of the book “Sierra Bermeja. Conservation values and biodiversity of serpentine ecosystems”.

Structured in 14 chapters, this work describes in a multidisciplinary way the characteristics of this unique mountain, one of the largest and best exposed rock outcrops of the upper terrestrial mantle worldwide.

The event will be presented by Daniel García, Councilor for Historical Heritage of the Estepona City Council, and will include the intervention of José Gómez Zotano, geographer and professor at the University of Granada (Department of Regional Geographic Analysis and Physical Geography); Andrés V. Pérez Latorre, botanist and professor at the University of Malaga (Department of Botany and Plant Physiology); and José Manuel Dorado Rueda, director of Editorial La Serranía.

The book, sponsored by the City Council of Estepona, consists of almost 200 pages in which texts of high scientific dissemination are combined with a careful selection of color images that illustrate all its pages, in a high quality paper edition.

The authors, from various scientific disciplines (Geography, Botany, Biology, Cartography, Computer Science and Archaeology), have been part of the Sierra Bermeja National Park Platform since 2007. With this work they show how Sierra Bermeja more than meets the requirements for its declaration as a National Park, so that, after the declaration of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park in 2021, it should be part of an extension that includes its full protection.
