ESTeatro Farándula’ Festival kicks off on Friday with ‘Hora de visita’, by Alonso de Santos

The seven theatrical performances of the Municipal Theater Group ‘Farándula’ will take place from October 10 to 24 (Thursdays and Fridays) at 8:00 p.m., at the Centro Cultual Padre Manuel.

Estepona City Council informs that the Municipal Theatre Group ‘Farándula’, directed by Luque, will open on Friday October 10, the Theatre Festival ‘ESTeatro Farándula’, with the play ‘Hora de visita’ by the Valladolid author J.L. Alonso de Santos. It will be at 8:00 pm, in the Auditorium of the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.

The first edition of this theater festival will be held between October 10 and 24 (October 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24). This ambitious project includes seven plays and is born from the love of its components for the theater and their desire to offer the public a wide range of quality works of different genres.

With this theatrical event, the GMT ‘Farándula’, which has a history of more than 40 years on the stage, aims to offer, enjoy, share and consolidate the theater as an essential part of the cultural life of Estepona.

Collaboration per day: 5 €. Special collaboration for the 5 days, 20 €.

The planned program is as follows:

– Day 10: ‘Hora de visita’ by J.L. Alonso de Santos (Synopsis: the action takes place in a hospital room where a woman visits her daughter who is admitted there. In an effort to give her back the spark of life, the mother shows off all the weapons she has in her power: humor, songs, irony and love, lots of love).

– Day 16: ‘El Niceto y La Leoncia’ by José Cedena (Synopsis: This is the story of some newlyweds by contract and a mother-in-law included in the lot… By calendar… A g***** and a pronghorn… And in a hurry for offspring to arrive), and ‘The Ashes of the Deceased’ by Stella Manaut. (Synopsis: What a “hard” job it is to die! And if not, just tell it to the protagonists of this curious black comedy of micro-theater, in which they are involved in the fulfillment of the last will of a friend).

– Day 17: ‘¡Ay, Carmela!’ by José Sanchis Sinisterra (Synopsis: A couple of mediocre artists, Carmela and Paulino, who during the civil war live badly performing in the villages of Republican Spain, in one of their trips, by mistake or ignorance, they go to the national side, where they are arrested and forced to perform for the national troops and some of their prisoners.

– Day 23: ‘La Consulta’ by Ángel Camacho Cabrera (Synopsis: an old lady named Encarnita is in the waiting room of a medical office, very dedicated to her knitting while waiting to be attended. Suddenly her attention is diverted to a young patient who interrupts the room), and ‘Figuras sin paisaje’ by Jorge Márquez. (Synopsis: Renata and Antolin find themselves in a boat on the sea of their loneliness. The incomprehension and indifference she feels are confronted with the passivity and boredom he feels, who seems to have got rid of all prejudice).

– Day 24: ‘Domingo Mañana’ by J.L. Alonso de Santos (Synopsis: A middle-aged married couple on different Sunday mornings, in the four seasons, with Vivaldi’s music in the background. The situation, apparently comic and trivial, is filled with super-realistic and dreamlike elements).

GMT ‘FARÁNDULA’. The Municipal Theater Group was created in 1983, and debuted in 1984 with the play ‘En la ardiente oscuridad’, by Buero Vallejo. Since then it has premiered almost a hundred titles of different theatrical genres.

Among the numerous awards received, it is worth mentioning the one awarded in the XV Certamen de Campillos: best play and best female interpretation for Mª Victoria de Miguel with ‘La gata sobre un tejado de zinc caliente’, a free version of the play based on the text by playwright Tennessee Williams, whose interpretation also earned her the Best Play Award in the National Theater Contest ‘Villa de Pizarra 2014’.

In the XIII Certamen de Campillos, two of its components: Rafa Alijas and Mar Berlanga, were, likewise, recognized as best performers in the well-known play by Adolfo Marsillach ‘Yo me bajo en la próxima, ¿y usted?’. In 2011 two recognitions stand out: award for best male interpretation to Miguel López for his role in ‘Gaviotas subterráneas’ in the XI Certamen de Campillos and in the III Certamen de Teatro de Olvera. And that same year he received the ‘Torre Almenara 2011’ Award as Best Cultural Entity, granted by the 24 Hours Sports Foundation of Estepona.

In addition, the GMT ‘Farándula’ won in 2016 two awards at the XVI Certamen de Teatro ‘Isidro Carbonero Villa de Campillos’. The show ‘Mamás’, a comic play by Marc Egea in which two women tell their experience in the world of motherhood, won the award for best female performer for Mercedes Bazán and best scenography. Since 1998, GMT ‘Farándula’ has been directed by Jesús Luque.
