The City Council celebrates International Women’s Day by recognizing Pilar Mayor Olea and the Gender Violence Section of the Bar Association.

The Consistory presents the annual ‘March 8th Awards’ to recognize individuals and groups that defend the values of equality.
The mayor, José María García Urbano, today chaired the institutional act of the International Women’s Day, where the ‘March 8 Awards’ were presented to the lawyer Pilar Mayor Olea and the team that is part of the Gender Violence of the Estepona delegation of the Bar Association of Malaga.
The first mayor said that, although the City Council works throughout the year to strengthen the role of women in our society, “today is an important day to give them greater visibility and prominence, and to recognize the work of individuals, groups and institutions that stand out for their work for women”. In his speech he added that the commitment of this government team is to continue working for equality, thus contributing to a fairer and more responsible society.”
With regard to the winners, in individual mode has recognized the work of the lawyer Estepona Pilar Mayor Olea, for his sixteen years of dedication to the head of the delegation of Estepona of the Bar Association of Malaga. The career of this professional has been marked by rigor, responsibility and a firm commitment to the defense of fundamental rights, especially in those areas that affect the most vulnerable groups. According to the mayor, professionals like Pilar Mayor embody that ethical commitment that transcends the individual exercise to become a true public service.
On the other hand, the collective award has been presented to the team of women and men of the Gender Violence Team of the Estepona delegation of the Bar Association of Malaga, for their work of extraordinary social significance, providing specialized legal assistance to women in general, and more specifically to those who suffer gender violence. García Urbano has emphasized that the Gender Violence represents one of the most effective mechanisms of institutional protection and thanks to its existence ensures that no woman is left helpless for lack of economic resources.
Finally, the mayor wanted to value the work carried out daily from the Municipal Women’s Information Center of Estepona in the care, information and assistance to women, and to raise awareness about the importance of educating in equality.
