The City Council invests more than 250,000 euros in the refurbishment of the educational centers.

The councilwoman assigned to the area of Education, María Aguilar, has visited the Gloria Fuertes Public Nursery School on the occasion of the beginning of the school year for Nursery and Primary Education 2025-2026.

The City Council of Estepona has invested during the summer season more than 250,000 euros in the tuning of public schools in the municipality. This has been explained by the councilor attached to the area of Education, Maria Aguilar, during the visit he made to the Gloria Fuertes Public Nursery School on the occasion of the start of the school year of Early Childhood and Primary Education 2025-2026.

The mayor has indicated that the improvement and maintenance works, which have exceeded one hundred, have been carried out during the summer months to avoid inconvenience to students and the rest of the educational community. Aguilar explained that the actions of tuning are those contained in the lists of needs that sent the directions of the schools themselves.

Among the major works that have been executed are the placement of a wooden plinth on the stairs of Infant CEIP García Lorca, the replacement of the safety floor in the CEIP Santo Tomás, the placement of sheet metal with paint in the Nursery School Gloria Fuertes, laminate flooring in two classrooms at CEIP María Espinosa, waterproofing of the roof of the gymnasium at the Ramón García school, the skirting board for the primary stairs at the El Carmen school, the installation of safety flooring in the entrance area of the Simón Fernández school, and in the playground at the Antonio Machado school. Safety flooring was also installed in the entrance area of the Calancha kindergarten and laminate flooring in the blue classroom of the Cancelada kindergarten.

All this has been accompanied by the specific work program of the Works and Maintenance brigade, which includes repairs, painting, masonry or plumbing, among many others. Thus, in the CEIP Sierra Bermeja and in the school García Lorca have been carried out tasks of painting classrooms and common areas, as well as ceilings.

At CEIP Santo Tomas de Aquino, in addition to painting, a small concrete slab has been built to place a cistern in the school garden, and a small perimeter wall to the balconies of the houses in the main courtyard.

In the CEIP Simón Fernández the interior painting of the center has been carried out (classrooms and corridors), the interior painting with repair of walls of the management office and library, the exterior of the main facade and the Clock Tower (bajeras), and the reform of the archive of the library area to transform it into the head of studies. In the Valeriano López school, the interior of the infant and specific classrooms and the corridors of the main entrance were painted.

At CEIP María Espinosa, various painting tasks were programmed, and rainwater grilles were built in the infant entrance area, and a gutter in the rubber playground, as well as a small ramp with plugged flooring for access to the morning classroom.

In the Ramón García school, painting has been carried out in playgrounds, inside corridors, stairways and common areas and infant classrooms, as well as the installation of bleachers in the sports court.

Painting was also carried out in the back playgrounds of the first cycle, the entrance area and main staircase, the gym area and the wall of the annexed playground at the Víctor de la Serna PS, where work was also carried out on the enclosure of the second floor corridor with a door.

At the Gloría Fuertes Nursery School, color painting of the central porch and perimeter walls was scheduled, and the rock climbing wall area was repainted. In addition, a metal structure with two sails (Paseo Marítimo) will be installed in the primary school playground.

As for the Ramón Lago center, the exterior facade of the dining room and the wall of the bleachers were painted, while in the Isdabe del Mar school, painting work was also carried out, as well as the replacement of the shower plate in the bathroom of the playground with the repair and revision of the existing electric water heater and the shower system. At the Nuestra Señora del Carmen school, in addition to painting, damages were repaired on the wall of the exterior façade, bleachers and walls of the sports courts, and a shaded area with a metal structure with two sails was installed in the primary school playground.

At the Antonio Machado school, a wall was painted and demolished in the entrance area to the teachers’ room, the façade of the kindergarten playground was conditioned to carry out the educational project of a mural in that area, cisterns were installed in the garden of the olive trees, and a small partition was placed to remove the gap between the pillar and the wall in the kindergarten playground. Improvements have also been made to the Adult Center, with the demolition of two partitions in the external control area on the second floor of the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.

Nursery schools

As for the nursery schools, the interior of the playgrounds of Los Pitufos has been painted; the exterior of the playground and main façade of Calancha; and the interior of classrooms, corridors and common areas in the Nursery School of Cancelada, where the structure of the porch in the playground and the exterior has also been painted.

At the El Nido school, all the ramps leading to the classrooms have been painted.

All these actions in the thirteen schools in Estepona have been complemented with a general review of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, locks and blinds in all schools. Likewise, all the gardening of the centers was reviewed in the second half of August so that they were in perfect condition for the start of the school year.

Maria Aguilar recalled that the City Council is responsible for the maintenance of schools throughout the year, reaching over a thousand actions.
