At FITUR, the City Council presents the Mirador del Carmen as a major cultural emblem of national reference and the arrival of the Boombastic Music Festival in the city.

The mayor, José María García Urbano, promotes the socio-cultural center at the Madrid tourism fair after its complete opening with an exhibition hall, auditorium, music conservatory, viewpoint and an eight-story library.

The Estepona Fair Park will host in July the musical event of the year with artists such as Maria Becerra, Melendi, Gordo and Steve Aoki, among others.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, has presented at the International Tourism Fair FITUR the great cultural emblem of the city, the socio-cultural center Mirador del Carmen, after the complete opening of its facilities. The so-called ‘cultural lighthouse’, a lookout tower located overlooking the sea, is already one of the main cultural facilities on the Costa del Sol and during its brief existence has attracted the attention of major events that have focused on the decisive commitment of the City Council for culture.

The center has a large exhibition hall that has been visited by more than 40,000 people so far and has already exhibited funds from major collections such as the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, or those belonging to the Zuloaga Foundation or Mapfre Foundation.

El Mirador del Carmen also has an auditorium, an impressive viewpoint overlooking the Mediterranean, a restaurant area and a Music Conservatory inaugurated during the current academic year, which has covered all the places offered for piano, guitar, saxophone and clarinet.

The cultural offer of the new cultural center of Estepona has recently been completed with the Library of Contemporary Cultures, an original space that occupies eight floors of the tower and has the most advanced technology and bibliographic funds available to a public of all ages. It is the largest vertical library in Spain and has, among other services, a studio for recording podcasts, voices and radio programs, as well as a makespace area (new media, digital printing and digital scenography), workshop area, audiovisual room, gamer area, virtual reality, coworking spaces for work groups, and for initiation to robotics.

The center is designed for the user to live a unique experience when visiting it day by day, so that it becomes an extension of their home, so that they can live the cultural and technological space.

This new cultural project complements the municipal initiative ‘Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol’, generating another powerful focus of tourist attraction and expanding the appeal of the renovated urban center towards the port area of the city.

The mayor also presented at FITUR the Boombastic Music Festival, to be held at the Estepona Fairgrounds on July 24, 25 and 26. The first preview of the lineup features artists Melendi, iconic DJ and producer Steve Aoki, María Becerra, Gordo, DEI V, Luck Ra, Cano, La Joaqui, Alejo, Juancho Marqués, Elena Rose, Ramma, Michenlo, Grecas and Mar Lucas. More names will be added to this list in the coming months.

Tickets will be available from February 2 at 12:00 noon on the festival’s official website: www.boombasticfestival.com.

The promoters of the festival have opted this year for Estepona for the celebration of one of the biggest musical events in the country, which has different venues in Spain throughout the year. The 2025 edition, they say, will be the “biggest” after having gathered last year in Malaga to more than 10,000 people.

Estepona, world capital of Iberian Ham

On the other hand, Estepona will once again become the world capital of Iberian Ham with the celebration of the X World Ham Contest ‘Popi Ciudad de Estepona’, scheduled from 8 to 17 August. This has been announced by García Urbano with the businessman José María Téllez ‘Popi’ in the presentation ceremony, which has had the presenter of Canal Sur, Eva Ruiz, as godmother of the event.

Declared ‘Event of Tourist Interest of Andalusia’, the event celebrates its tenth edition this year and will be attended by the best companies related to the production of ham and its derivatives from all over the country, adapted to the measures of the health authorities. In addition, free concerts will be held every night to liven up the evenings.

Hotel bets

The Estepona City Council also presented at FITUR the commitment of the Croma Hospitality Management hotel chain to the city, where it already has a significant presence and where it plans new initiatives. This was announced by the mayor, José María García Urbano, along with the company’s CEO, Miguel Ángel Carrillo Merino.

Recently created, this hotel chain is expanding its presence in Estepona under the name Croma-HM Hoteles. It currently operates several establishments in the city, such as the Hostal La Malagueña, the Hotel Mediterráneo, the Hostal San Miguel and the La Viu luxury apartments. It also has other accommodations on the Costa del Sol and in the Dominican Republic.
