Estepona is hosting the 13th ITF Junior Costa del Sol International Tournament, with some 500 tennis players from 51 countries registered to participate

A preliminary round will be held on September 12 and 13, and a final round from September 14 to 19, at the Bel-Air Tennis and Padel Club

Luis Gil, the city council member assigned to the Sports Department; Juan Rosas Gallardo, the sports representative for the Málaga Provincial Council; Pedro Domínguez, vice president of the Andalusian Tennis Federation; and event organizer Raúl Rivet today presented the 13th ITF Junior Costa del Sol International Tournament, which will take place at the Bel-Air Tennis and Padel Club, with the qualifying rounds on September 12 and 13 and the final rounds from September 14 to 19.

City official Luis Gil highlighted the high level of participation in this competition, with some 500 tennis players under the age of 18 registered this year, although only the top 120 participants—in both the girls’ and boys’ categories—will be able to compete. The councilman also stated that the ITF Junior Costa del Sol has become a benchmark event, attracting numerous fans with each edition, who choose Estepona for its ideal climate for playing tennis, its facilities, and the event’s meticulous organization.

The Deputy for Sports, Juan Rosas, explained that this tournament is unique in Andalusia and is part of a global circuit consisting of 2,000 tournaments spread across five continents. He also expressed his gratitude to the City Council for its dedication and commitment to sports, demonstrated through its support of local athletes, the hosting of major sporting events, and the construction of world-class sports facilities.

Likewise, the Vice President of the Andalusian Tennis Federation, Pedro Domínguez, emphasized the importance and quality of this tournament, which has established itself on the global junior circuit: “Proof of this is the participation in this edition of players from 51 countries.” He also highlighted the opportunity this tournament provides for promising young tennis players in Andalusia.

Finally, Raúl Rivet, president of the Costa del Sol Tennis Sports Club, which is in charge of organizing the event, stated that this competition serves as a platform for these young tennis players to make the leap to elite tennis and cited several players who participated in previous years and have gone on to reach the highest levels of the sport, such as Martín Landaluce, who was a finalist in 2020 and is currently ranked number one in the world in the junior rankings; Miguel Pérez, the 2020 champion, who was a member of the Spanish junior national team in 2021; Silvia Soler, the 2003 champion who reached world No. 177; and Thomas Fabbiano, the 2004 champion and No. 99 in the ATP rankings.
