Municipal parking plan enables the hiring of more than thirty people with functional diversity
The project has opened a way for their labor insertion through an agreement with the Aprona association, which is in charge of the management of the premises.
– The municipal parking plan launched by the City Council of Estepona, which already includes four enclosures under the formula of parking for one euro during the day, has provided the city with more than 2,000 places where you can leave the vehicle, but has also opened a door to the employment of people with functional diversity who are responsible for the management of all these parking. So far, the agreement between the Consistory and the Aprona Association has enabled the formalization of up to 37 contracts. Of these, 33 correspond to men and women with some type of disability.
This management agreement between the City of Estepona and the Association for People with Functional Diversity of Estepona (Aprona) has given visibility to the work of this organization and the capabilities of these people with functional diversity who can work, integrate and perform various tasks.
Today there are 33 workers who are responsible for the management of the parking lots of the new City Hall, Plaza Antonia Guerrero, Athletics Stadium and Chess Square. Of these, 19 are men and 14 are women. Most of them are between 35 and 60 years old.
The Foreca service organizes the hiring of this staff, which is in charge of all the tasks aimed at ensuring that the parking lots are well maintained and attended 24 hours a day. Thus, organized in shifts, 27 parking agents, three cleaners, two customer service supervisors and an administrative assistant operate in the different areas. As for the technical work, there are two people dedicated to the coordination and management of activities and two job coaches who support the inclusion of these workers with functional diversity.
The Estepona City Council is working on the expansion of this network of public parking at a cost of 1 euro per day with two new parking lots that are currently under construction. One of them, located in the surroundings of the Iglesia del Carmen, will have 322 parking spaces distributed in three subway floors. To these will be added the 300 contemplated in the new parking lot on the Parque Central boulevard. These new parking spaces are in addition to the 2,000 spaces already in existence.
The Consistory also plans to build another parking area in the La Lobilla zone, for which the project has already been contracted.
