The City Council is organizing a special security operation for the arrival of La Vuelta 2026 this Friday

Traffic will be restricted on the main roads along the route between 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., with the peloton expected to pass through the city center between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The Estepona City Council reports that it has organized a special security and traffic plan to host the finish of the 19th stage of La Vuelta a España this Friday, September 11, which will pass through the city center and end at the summit of Peñas Blancas-Los Reales. In light of this sporting event of international significance, the various municipal departments are also working on a plan to prepare and beautify urban infrastructure, as well as a coordinated mobility and safety plan.

The race will result in temporary road closures and traffic restrictions this Friday. Traffic will be restricted as much as possible on the roads included in the route between 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The race is expected to pass through the city center between approximately 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., subject to possible changes depending on how the stage unfolds and the instructions of the Civil Guard and the organizers.

The route the peloton will follow is as follows: Entry from the A-7 (toward Marbella-Estepona, exit at km 1.067), Litoral Avenue, España Avenue, Pedro Manrique Boardwalk, España Avenue, Carmen Avenue, Puerta del Mar Avenue, Cibernética Roundabout, Ricardo Ortega Street, San Fernando Square, San Fernando Street, Andalucía Avenue, Los Reales Avenue, MA-8301 Highway toward Peñas Blancas / Los Reales (finish line located near the viewpoint by the statue of Carlos Martínez).

To ensure the safety of participants and the public, the City Council reminds residents of the need to remove vehicles parked in the designated areas along the route in advance. Residents and drivers are also advised to plan their trips in advance, use alternative routes, and follow the instructions of traffic officers. The Estepona City Council thanks residents in advance for their cooperation and understanding regarding any temporary inconveniences that may arise due to this major sporting event.

To facilitate mobility on that day, the city’s municipal preschools and elementary schools will end the school day at 1:00 p.m.

Furthermore, it should be noted that during these days, the municipal Parks and Gardens Department is focusing its efforts on enhancing the green spaces along the various sections of the route so that the city presents its best image during the broadcast of this event in nearly 190 countries, which could result in a cumulative audience of more than 450 million viewers throughout the entire competition. In addition, palm trees, dwarf palms, and various ornamental plants have been planted along Avenida Litoral and at other points along the route where the peloton will pass.

Likewise, municipal operational teams are carrying out extensive technical preparations to ensure the race’s safety and facilitate the peloton’s passage, implementing measures such as modifying urban infrastructure—including the temporary removal of streetlights, traffic signs, plastic bollards, and concrete structures. The roundabout on Teatro Street has also been temporarily removed, and the one on Terraza Street has been provisionally reduced in size to facilitate the cyclists’ passage.

Another measure has involved repairing the pavement by patching and replacing damaged tiles and cobblestones along the section of Avenida España. Work will continue with the construction of a ramp at a strategic location next to the Mirador del Carmen tower and the provision of tents, tables, and chairs for the organization of La Vuelta.

The Estepona City Council has highlighted the impact this live broadcast will have on promoting tourism, as millions of people will discover the charms of this city and its unique natural landscapes.

Finally, it should be noted that on Friday, 3,000 T-shirts produced by the City Council to mark the arrival of La Vuelta will be distributed free of charge. The T-shirts will be distributed starting at 12:00 p.m. at three locations throughout the city: at the entrance to City Hall, and at the beginning of Terraza Street near España Avenue.

Please also note that the organizers will set up Parque Vuelta, a large Fan Zone, where there will be several booths distributing event-related merchandise. It will be located on Avenida España, between the children’s playground and Calle Delfín.
